Job Title: VMS Technical Specialist and Installation
Position Location: Northeastern US or Midwest area

Summary
This position is to provide customer and dealership support in the North East United States (area), in regard to any technical application and installation of the VMS and related equipment. The VMS (Voluntary Milking System, i.e. milking robot) Technician will be responsible for all technical, maintenance, training and service programs with VMS in the services area.

The VMS technician will also be responsible for coordinating between the various entities within DeLaval, R & D, Manufacturing and Sales & Marketing. The VMS technician should reside in the Pennsylvania, USA area so relocation may be required.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the overall product technical performance of all systems installed in area
  • Act as project leader for DeLaval on all VMS installation in area
  • Responsible for the selection and recommendation of potential or future service technicians for VMS training
  • Provide continuous training and documentation on all dealership personnel that are authorized as VMS service technicians in area
  • Responsible for the proper training of all service technicians ¡V including coordination of technical training sessions held outside United States
  • Ensure that service/maintenance programs are implemented and performed according to guidelines
  • Provide technical assistance over the phone or in the field as needed
  • Implement any system upgrades
  • Maintain proper customer file on system versions running in the field

Taking the Design and Schematics, to ultimately create profit-pricing, is a LARGE part of this position! Sales are secondary, but a dynamic we would like the person to have.
  3. Perform comprehensive technical and commercial review of customer specifications and drawings; understand how the drawings "fit together" as it pertains to automation, or conveyor systems.
  4. Develop system layout based on customer requirements and internal standards including base bids and alternates. Internal Customers/Colleagues are as important as external when pricing the project!

  • Translates customer requirements from the initial quote stage through qualification and implementation.

  • Select and ensure proper qualification of suppliers.
  • Lead and direct the activities of the Estimator(s). Actively participate in and review complex or strategic RFQs. Evaluate quotes in terms of delivery dates/commitments, materials, tooling, and fixtures/equipment necessary to support specific production.
  • Act as a facilitator to staff, leveraging in-house “process experts” to champion design for manufacturability, process improvement initiatives, and cost reduction activities.
  • Prepares rough sketches for staff by studying engineering specifications.
  • Prepares final drawings by studying engineering sketches, specifications, and supporting documents; drawing multiple views of fixtures components and parts; and identifying, tolerances, and materials.
  • Resolves discrepancies by collecting and analyzing information; conferring with designers/drafters.
  • Lead, teach, and direct the activities of the designers/drafters. Assist in the planning for development, documentation, implementation, control, and improvement of production processes.
  • Manage relationship with external SolidWorks system consultants.
  • Working closely with Quality management, direct appropriate application of to ensure high quality, cost effective, and robust process implementation.
  • Develop and utilize performance metrics for all areas of direct responsibility to maintain alignment of team performance and company goals.
  • Lead technical troubleshooting of production processes and equipment.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Candidate must possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering and preferable 3 or more years experience with fixture design. Experience with computer aided design software, such as AutoCAD or SolidWorks is required. The successful candidate will possess two to three years' direct work experience in a manufacturing environment. A Bachelor’s degree is preferred, or equivalent level of training and experience.

Responsibilities include:

  • Assist research engineers in the performance of experimental bridge research.
