Job Description
The Substation Engineer will support new generation projects in the Richmond, VA area. This is a Contract-to-Hire position, with the potential for full-time conversion after the initial 12-month term.
Key Responsibilities
- Review design packages for substation and high-voltage generation tie-line projects related to solar and battery energy storage (BESS) installations
- Address comments from third-party Owner's Engineers and coordinate resolutions
- Respond to RFIs from substation and generation tie-line contractors
- Support projects from design through construction to final energization
- Review equipment submittals and commissioning documents
- Conduct occasional day trips to sites in Virginia to assist with engineering-related construction issues
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering required
- 2 - 5 years of engineering experience in the power generation
- Solid understanding of electrical engineering principles and power system modeling
- Proficiency in advanced substation design techniques and practices
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and work independently or within a team
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in Virginia or North Carolina is preferred but not required
- Familiarity with PJM and NERC policies and procedures
- Experience with ETAP and PSSE software
- Knowledge of relays and control systems
- Background in substation and transmission line engineering
