Job Description Summary

As a Medium Voltage Power Electronics and Drive Engineer at GE Power Conversion, you will be part of a cross-functional engineering team focused on designing, developing, testing, and supporting medium voltage (MV) power electronic systems and motor drives. These systems are essential for industrial, marine, and renewable applications requiring high performance, energy efficiency, and reliability.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

  • Offer guidance and support for teams and individuals on complex issues in their area of expertise.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical or domain-specific problems.
  • Provide input on project planning and implementation.
  • Conduct regular knowledge-sharing sessions (workshops, training, documentation) to ensure teams are updated on the latest trends and technologies.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of documentation, guidelines, and best practices.
  • Mentor junior employees or new team members, helping them grow their expertise.
  • Actively support skill development within the team
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support project success and problem-solving.
  • Act as the main point of contact for knowledge queries related to their specialty.
  • Participate in process improvement initiatives by identifying areas of inefficiency and suggesting practical solutions.
  • Evaluate and implement new tools or technologies to improve the work environment or business performance.
  • Review deliverables and processes to ensure compliance with standards and regulations.
  • Ensure the accuracy and consistency of all work outputs related to their area of expertise Design and develop medium-voltage variable frequency drives (VFDs) and power electronic converters (e.g., rectifiers, inverters, active front ends).
  • Lead or support design reviews, FMEA, and validation testing (e.g., thermal, EMC, harmonic analysis).
  • Collaborate with system, control, mechanical, and embedded teams to ensure system integration and performance.
  • Provide technical support during project execution and commissioning phases.
  • Author technical documentation, including specifications, design reports, and test procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable standards (e.g., IEEE, IEC, UL, CE) and GE quality processes.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in medium-voltage power electronics design and application.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Strong knowledge of power semiconductor devices and converter topologies (NPC, ANPC, MMC, etc.).
  • Experience with control strategies for MV drives, such as DTC or vector control.
  • Proficiency in simulation tools (MATLAB/Simulink, PLECS, PSIM, etc.).
  • Familiarity with high power testing, insulation coordination, and safety procedures.
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Ph.D. in Power Electronics or a related discipline.
  • Experience with marine or industrial MV drive systems.
  • Hands-on experience with hardware design and laboratory testing.
