Assistant Professor of Chemical Biological & Bioengineering

The primary responsibilities for this position include teaching undergraduate and graduate level courses, conducting cutting edge and funded research; student advising, mentoring and recruitment; curriculum development, producing scholarly products and all other activities required for a successful academic career. Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to, engaging in accreditation procedures, program assessment and service to the department, College and University as needed.

Primary Function of Organizational Unit

N.C. A&T is a public, land-grant, doctoral research institution and has been the largest historically Black university in the country for the past decade. With an enrollment of over 14,000 students in Fall 2024, the university offers 59 undergraduate degree programs, 36 master's programs, and 12 doctoral programs. It is America's top producer of Black graduates in Engineering and Agricultural Science bachelor's programs, as well as a top five producer in numerous additional disciplines, including Liberal Arts and Communications/Journalism. It also ranks no. 3 in master's degrees awarded to Black graduates in Engineering Technologies and Related Fields, no. 4 in master's degrees in Engineering, and no. 11 best business school for women in the nation.

A&T is classified as "R2-High Research Activity" in the Carnegie Classifications and is poised to achieve "R1-Very High Research Activity" status. The College of Engineering, with over 2,400 students, has EAC ABET-accredited undergraduate programs in Architectural, Bio-, Biological, Civil, Chemical, Computer, Electrical, Industrial, and Mechanical Engineering, as well as a CAC ABET-accredited program in Computer Science. The Department of Chemical, Biological, and Bio- Engineering offers ABET-accredited Bachelors of Science programs in Chemical Engineering, Bioengineering, and Biological Engineering, and offers Masters of Science programs in Bioengineering and Chemical Engineering. The Department has 12 full-time faculty members in engineering, 4 staff members. Major research includes the NSF

Engineering Research Center for Revolutionizing Metallic Biomaterials, the NSF CREST Bioenergy Center, the NSF RED project "A Revolution in Engineering Education Motivated by Needs and Designs," and the US Army-funded Biotechnology Center. Educational and research programs in the Department emphasize engineering solutions for problems in healthcare, energy and the environment. Minimum Requirements

PhD in Chemical Engineering or a related engineering area is required. A sincere commitment to excellence in teaching, and an ability to conduct high quality, externally funded research in an area of chemical, biochemical or biomedical engineering must be demonstrated.

Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education

Preferred research areas are artificial intelligence, chemical process control, and modeling. Candidates must be willing and able to teach core chemical engineering courses in thermodynamics, transport processes, process control, and reaction engineering. Post-doctoral experience is desirable.
