The Ottawa office supports a wide range of clients and projects in the Life Sciences and nuclear markets. Merrick has some very exciting projects including design of large laboratory and research facilities.

We’ve been successful in winning some large, complex and exciting projects and need a strong project manager accustomed to a regulated work environment with discipline, ingenuity, motivation and skills to lead a multi-discipline team of engineers and designers. Merrick is seeking candidates who have technical and project management experience with design and construction of complex facility systems, structures and components with an emphasis on containment and research.

About the Opportunity

Merrick is seeking a highly motivated, team-oriented individual to serve as a Project Manager to support our operations in Ottawa, Canada. The successful candidate will provide direct support to Merrick clientele, ensuring seamless contract administration and effective project execution. Key responsibilities include working with clients to establish needs, developing opportunities and writing detailed proposals, and leading the technical execution of projects and the Merrick project team. The Project Manager will support a team of architects, engineers, subcontractors, and subject matter experts involved in biocontainment and laboratory facility design, operations and commissioning/validation.

Basic office hours are 8:00 am MT to 5:00 pm MT, Monday thru Friday and is a hybrid schedule. Occasional overtime could be needed with short notice. This position may also require some minimal travel.

Typical salary range for this position is $160,000.00 - $190,000.00. Base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

This position will provide project and engineering management of a highly qualified and experienced staff of multi-discipline engineers, designers and architects.

Responsibilities include:

  • Serving as a point of contact with the customer, developing project plans, forecasting, establishing and updating project cost estimates and schedules
  • Communicate project status to clients and internal stakeholders
  • Hold teams accountable to meeting commitments
  • Manage project resources
  • Lead projects in client facing roles with an expected high degree of success
  • Execute projects in accordance with established and exact project QA requirements
  • Lead teams in the identification of priorities
  • Manage changes, stakeholders and schedules for owned projects
  • Marketing for new work, proposing on new efforts, and developing a network of clients.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Require fifteen (15) or more years’ experience in the technical fields described.
  • Proven experience in project management with a deep understanding of project management tools, including Primavera P6 and Microsoft Project.
  • Experience Directing/supervising engineering leads.
  • Extensive experience with multidisciplinary project
  • Has managed various project types including, design and professional services.
  • Exceptional verbal, written and presentation communication competencies for all audience types
  • Strong ability to take complicated topics and concisely present them
  • Must have critical thinking skills
  • Experience managing teams under various contract types with significant experience on design build contracts
  • Earned value management experience
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and Scheduling Software (e.g. MS Office, Primavera).
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Certifications:
    • (PE), UK (C.Eng), and European (Eur Ing) professional engineer license holders may be considered.
    • A Bachelor of Sciences in Engineering from a Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board (CEAB) accredited program (or equivalent in the US, UK, or European Union) with applicable experience may be considered in lieu of a P. Eng.
    • Candidate must hold or be able to obtain Government of Canada Secret Level clearance. In the case of not currently holding the clearance, documentation demonstrating compliance to all requirements along with all required completed application forms must be presented for submission to the relevant authorities on the first day of employment.
    • Client projects require Canadian Citizenship or permanent Canadian resident status.
    • S, UK, or European Union member country citizenship may be considered.
