Salary: $130,000 - $160,000

We are seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer with extensive experience in space systems, covering all aspects of spacecraft requirements, design, and testing. This role emphasizes technical excellence, offering both ownership and oversight of spacecraft products. The ideal candidate will seamlessly integrate traditional spacecraft design principles with agile commercial methodologies to deliver innovative capabilities and exceptional results.

A strong focus on practical systems engineering processes, beyond just theoretical concepts, is essential. Candidates should be eager to engage in technical details and adapt workflows as needed. The ability to mentor and empower junior engineers is critical, as this role significantly contributes to their technical development. Collaboration with leadership across the Space Systems Business Group is also a key component of this position.

This position is located onsite in our Santa Barbara, CA office.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support the full life cycle of flight electronics design, analysis, manufacture, and test as a senior member of the Electrical Engineering team.
  • Lead individual subsystem design and project efforts while coordinating with relevant cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Perform electrical design, including schematic, parts selection, and layout, for spacecraft electronics subsystems (e.g., avionics, solar arrays, batteries, payloads, subsystems, and harnessing).
  • Conduct analysis to demonstrate performance, survivability, and optimization of electrical designs.
  • Provide guidance to junior engineers as needed.
  • Perform other professional duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • 7+ years of relevant experience developing high-reliability electronics.
  • Experience in digital and analog mixed-signal circuit design, including high-speed.
  • Full-stack schematic capture and PCB layout in Altium.
  • Experience developing firmware for embedded systems (e.g., microcontrollers, FPGAs).
  • Familiarity with test equipment such as oscilloscopes, logic and spectrum analyzers, thermal chambers, and current probes.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • RF circuit design, analysis, and testing.
  • Experience with 3D EM solvers, such as CST Studio or Ansys HFSS.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python.
  • Familiarity with communication protocols such as SPI, RS-422, and RS-485.
  • Knowledge of DC-DC switcher design and implementation.
  • Hands-on PCB prototyping and rework.
  • Excellent communication skills, ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, and willingness to guide junior engineers as needed.
  • Comfortable working in a dynamic, fast-paced development environment.
