Job Description
What you will do:
The Senior Test Engineer will work within the Engineering Lab team that is part of the Unitary Products Group (UPG) for Johnson Controls. In this division we design, test, manufacture, and assemble heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment for the light commercial and residential markets. Johnson Controls has two plants for UPG with approximately 1000 employees each; one in Norman, OK and the other in Wichita, KS. This position will be located in the Norman, OK Engineering Lab and will report to the Director of Lab Operations.
As Senior Test Engineer, you will play a crucial role in designing, developing, and maintaining Allen-Bradley PLC control systems for our state-of-the-art, climate-controlled commercial HVAC laboratory. You will work closely with our team of engineers and technicians to integrate instrumentation and control ensuring seamless functionality of our testing facilities. You will manage complex engineering test assignments, often requiring development of new or improved processes / techniques to solve testing challenges.
How you will do it:
Design, implement, and maintain facility control and data acquisition systems utilized in psychrometric chambers, gas/electric heat stations, sound & vibration rooms, and reliability testing
Maintain and refine legacy PLC programs for improved performance and expanded functionality
Troubleshoot related issues with facility control systems, sensors, instrumentation, and other P&ID components
Provide leadership and coordination for project teams in the creation and execution of test to learn development test plans for UPG Norman engineering projects
Identify and implement high-impact improvement projects for Psychrometric and Gas/Electric Heat testing methods and processes
Collaborate with the labs Calibration team to integrate calibration procedures into testing software
Collaborate with lab customers to identify and lead improvement projects
Other duties as assigned
What we look for :
Required
One of the following:
Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related fields
Proven experience in PLC programming and data acquisition systems development in an engineering laboratory (or comparable) environment
Proficiency in applicable programming languages such as RSLogix 500 & 5000, Studio 5000, LabVIEW, Python, etc.
Strong understanding of instrumentation integration and control
Knowledge of hardware interfaces and serial communication protocols (e.g., USB, Ethernet, GPIB)
Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills with attention to detail
Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment
Strong communication and documentation skills, with both fellow experts and laypersons
Preferred
Previous experience in an engineering laboratory or similar testing environment
Familiarity with National Instruments (NI) hardware
Able to read and interpret P&ID and electrical/electronic schematics
Experience with design and implementation of automation systems
Experience with instrumentation calibration processes
HVAC training/certification (or general familiarity with HVAC system operation and subcomponents)
Familiarity with UL, CSA, ASHRAE, AHRI, ANSI, and other related industry standards
Working knowledge of SKM Power tools and related programming software
