You will serve as an ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN in the WELDING & NON-DESTRUCTIVE TESTING ENGINEERING DIVISION (Code 138), QUALITY ASSURANCE DEPARMENT (Code 130) of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD. GS-12 : Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
- Experience applying technical engineering principles related to materials, metallurgy, welding, brazing, cold spray and Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) to perform waterfront support in various trade disciplines for the overhaul, conversion, repair, custom manufacturing of ships assigned.
- Experience developing efficient and cost-effective welding processes for repair/fabrication of structural, piping, and components in power systems.
- Experience providing technical direction and controlling widely diversified welding and related processes which are complex and require unique applications of past experience, and in-depth technical expertise to resolve.
- Experience applying welding engineering principles involving material related problems, by determining the specific information needed and selecting appropriate methods and procedures performing analyses, tests, and interpreting the results.
- Experience preparing reports of findings, recommendations, and lessons learned for new processes and first-time work.
