This critical organization is highly collaborative to ensure robust and scalable solutions needed to continue growing Fastly's deployment footprint. • Design and implement foundational libraries, APIs, and automation to run Fastly or customer workloads across all edge environments
  • Use a variety of technologies from Linux through cloud technologies in the development, deployment, evolution, and maintenance of the edge platform
  • Analyze and address performance and stability issues to meet high scale requirements
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders on defining, developing and maintaining different deployment models based on partnerships and customers needs

What We're Looking For:

  • Significant professional experience building high-reliability distributed systems.. Most Staff Engineers at Fastly have more than 7 years of related experience.
  • Significant professional proficiency with Go and/or Rust and aptitude for learning new languages.
  • Experience with networking/distributed/cloud systems especially Kubernetes
  • Experience with debugging Linux internals either in a cloud environment or on bare metal systems
  • Hands-on experience in building distributed infrastructure and maintaining it over time
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce clear and comprehensive documentation
  • A collaborative mindset with experience working across cross-functional teams, fostering a culture of knowledge sharing and innovation
  • Proven ability to mentor and support the growth of engineers, both within a specific area of expertise and more broadly
  • An understanding of safe coding practices, release practices, and data analysis techniques
  • Pragmatic approach, with a willingness to invest as much energy into maintenance as into new code
  • Strong passion for detailed and timely documentation

We'll be super impressed if you have experience in any of these:

  • Understanding of security concerns in multi-tenant systems including QEMU
  • Developed or supported in a zero-trust environment including secure boot, attestations
