A Day in the Life In this exciting role you will be responsible for extrusion process development as part of the AME Extrusion team. This will support a variety of Medtronic Operating Units (SH, PVH, RTG, CAS, CRDN, CRM) on numerous therapies and disease states to help patients across the globe. In this role, you will work with engineering to develop new processing with a variety of resins and compounds to create robust and repeatable processes in a pre-market setting with the goal of implementing into production. Extrusion processes may include: free extrusion, co-extrusion, multi-lumen, reel-to-reel continuous extrusion, and vacuum sizing. Strong experience in set-ups and processing in one previously listed extrusion process is required. Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned. Provides technical support to engineers to achieve improvements in cycle-time, yield, unit cost, quality, safety and compliance of production and operations processes and products. Monitors instruments and equipment and collects operating data, including calibration, inspection, testing and repair activities, to assist in making on-line adjustments to instruments, equipment, or products. Analyzes and resolves malfunctions and deviations of instruments and control systems to identify and resolve problems. Conducts, analyses and prepares reports using metrics from salvage tracking, trending, reporting and root-cause analyses. Maintains process designs to optimize process, equipment and facility use while conforming to standard operating procedures (SOPs) and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs). Required Knowledge and Experience: Requires minimum of 8 years of relevant experience. Requires high school diploma or equivalent (United States), vocational or technical education or certification (all other countries). Preferred Qualifications: Operating Extrusion Equipment: Setting up, operating, and troubleshooting extrusion machinery. Knowledge of temperature control, automated feedback loops, and ancillary equipment Technical Skills: Experience with extrusion processing, tooling, and equipment, basic math skills, and ability to read technical drawings and specifications. Problem-solving: Ability to identify and troubleshoot issues that arise during the extrusion process. Material Knowledge: Experience with thermoplastic resins and compounds. Loading and drying materials to recommend specifications. Quality Assurance: Performing quality checks on the extruded products and ensuring compliance with specifications. Continuous Improvement: Identifying opportunities for streamlining work, reducing waste, and improving the overall extrusion process. Maintenance: Troubleshoots and conducts maintenance on extrusion equipment. Ability to make minor repairs and adjustments to the equipment, and reporting issues to engineering staff Documentation: Executing equipment qualifications. Filling out Engineering Build Request (EBR) paperwork, documenting proof that operations are within established parameters, knowledge of GDP. Familiarity with Agile PLM system. Safety: Following safety guidelines, wearing appropriate personal protective equipment, and maintaining a clean work area. Attention to Detail: Ensuring product quality and adherence to specifications and monitoring process changes or drifts Physical Stamina: Performing manual tasks and standing for extended periods. Lifting 50lbs for short durations Teamwork: Working collaboratively with other team members, including operators, maintenance staff, supervisors, and engineers.
