The primary purpose of Location & Surveys is to serve as support services in providing engineering analysis, mapping and other data for the design of transportation facilities and the acquisition of property for the construction of transportation facilities. For more information on the Location & Surveys Unit see the Applicants must submit an application that clearly reflects work experience that demonstrates the following:
- Experience accurately reading, comprehending, interpreting, and applying Department and Unit procedures and policies to data provided through CADD files, plans sheets, and maps, as those apply to engineering and other types of land surveying.
- Experience planning, directing, overseeing, leading the work of lower-level technicians in survey field and office work.
- Experience working with survey equipment, i.e. total stations, GNSS receivers.
- Experience developing maps/plans through CADD utilizing CADD software.
- Experience utilizing the standards, principles, and practices of surveying in North Carolina.
Some state job postings say you can qualify by an equivalent combination of education and experience. Associates degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology or assigned discipline from an appropriately accredited institution and three (3) years of progressive technician level experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
