The Electrical Engineer is responsible for creation, development, and validation of the electronics for power systems, battery packs and chargers within the New Product Development Group. Candidate will participate in design activities including requirements capture, schematic capture, board layout, and firmware development. Candidate will also participate in DFM exercises, production transition activities, fixture development, manufacturing support, and product failure analyses. Ideal candidate will have core expertise in DC power systems, analog and digital design, and firmware development, with strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Primary Functions:

  • Support electronic design for batteries, chargers, and power systems as part of a cross functional development team.
  • Create/coordinate system diagrams, schematic capture, simulation, board layout, firmware requirements, and electronic requirements and specifications.
  • Develop custom firmware for microcontrollers used in embedded designs.
  • Work with internal and external customers to define requirements, identify risks, and develop specifications.
  • Guide remote engineering resources with design reviews and tasking.
  • Perform engineering calculations, measurements, and analysis.
  • Develop and execute test requirements for product characterization and verification.
  • Must be able to effectively multitask.
  • Must be able and willing to travel both domestic and internationally (<10%).>
  • Familiarity with communication protocols such as CanBus, SMBus, I2C, HDQ, DQ, RS232/485
  • Working knowledge of commercial and military performance standards such as UL, UN, CE, IEC, Mil-Std-810, and Mil-Std-461.

Education and Experience:

  • B.S. degree in an Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • 3+ years related experience in design engineering practice.
  • Experience in manufacturing transition activities, including process definition and implementation, creating work instructions, and product failure analysis.
  • Experience with ECAD tools for schematic capture and board layout, preferably Altium.
  • Experience with development and test of both hardware and firmware for low-power microcontrollers.
  • Experience with software/firmware development and test.
  • Experience with EMI/EMC design principles.
  • Must have a general knowledge of ISO requirements and working knowledge of those requirements as they pertain to document / record control, new product development, work environment including ESD / temperature / humidity / contamination, and monitoring / measuring / inspection / validation of product in support of product design and manufacture.
  • High level of initiative and strong work ethic.
