Zachary Piper Solutions is seeking a Mission Operations Development Engineer to join a Federal Program in Lanham, MD. The Mission Operations Development Engineer will be responsible for developing the processes, tools and procedures required for successful operations of the satellite constellation.

Responsibilities of the Mission Operations Development Engineer include:

  • Conduct trade studies and support configuration, operation, and troubleshooting of Satellite Operations Center (SOC) tools.
  • Design and evolve operations processes for the constellation lifecycle.
  • Develop and test automated tools, mission procedures, telemetry displays, and command sequences.
  • Collaborate with engineers and vendors to create operational products for LEOP, commissioning, and routine satellite operations.
  • Validate SOC procedures and support integration, end-to-end testing, and mission readiness activities (e.g., simulations, rehearsals).
  • Provide real-time mission support during LEOP and critical phases, including rotating shifts.
  • Update procedures based on on-orbit performance and lessons learned.
  • Participate in system development activities (e.g., design/reviews, requirements, architecture, integration).
  • Mentor and support the mission operations team.

Qualifications for the Mission Operations Development Engineer include:

  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM field; 2-5+ years of relevant experience preferred.
  • Experience with LEO satellite constellations and operations software.
  • Skilled in scripting (Python, Ruby) and programming (Java, Python, Matlab, C#).
  • Familiar with Git, Atlassian tools (Jira, Confluence), and AWS-based applications.
  • Knowledge of satellite command/control systems and engineering analysis tools.
  • Systems engineering experience or coursework.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently in dynamic environments.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with remote, diverse teams.
  • Comfortable working under pressure and meeting tight deadlines.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance.

Compensation for the Mission Operations Development Engineer includes:

  • Salary Range: $100,000 - $135,000 depending on experience
  • Comprehensive Benefits: Cigna Medical, Dental, Vision, 401K, PTO, Sick Leave if required by law, and Holidays
