ALK Source Materials, Inc., a leading manufacturer of quality allergenic biological source materials, and a member of the global ALK group of companies, is recruiting for our open Development Scientist I-II-III position. Join our stable and growing company and provide leadership and expertise to our workforce located in our 150,000 square foot facility in Post Falls, ID.
The Development Scientist conducts and documents experiments to develop new or optimize existing production processes for biological source materials. A key role of this position is recording, compiling, and verifying data with a focus on designing, analyzing, and optimizing manufacturing processes to improve efficiency and reduce costs through activities like process design, troubleshooting, process optimization, data analysis, project management, and collaboration with cross-functional teams.
Responsibilities include, developing and validating processing methods, reviewing experimental results, and authoring development study plans, product specifications, SOPs, and forms. The Scientist may perform analytical work, when necessary, but this position is not focused on performing laboratory analysis. This position is focused on process development and previous process engineering experience is preferred. In addition, the top candidate will show strong project management and technical writing skills. Previous process engineering or process development experience is highly preferred with experience in powder processing, large scale column chromatography including packing and unpacking, and/or mechanical engineering desirable.
The successful candidate will have a Bachelors degree in biological sciences, biochemistry, chemistry, engineering, or related field and minimum of 2 years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience . Candidates must have the ability to work with Quality Systems and regulatory requirements such as: CFRs, GMP, FDA, OSHA, and European Authority. Pharmaceutical/allergy or food manufacturing industry experience, including development, transfer and implementation of production processes is highly preferred.
Attention to detail and good communication skills, both oral and written, are key competencies for this position. Candidates should have hands on experience and understanding of experiment design, as well as the ability to analyze data and make conclusions based on that data with little supervisory oversight. In addition, the top candidate will show strong project management skills, creativity, and an understanding of statistics. Must be team oriented to work across employee levels, departments, and sites.
