The Prince George's County Department of Permitting, Inspections, & Enforcement is currently seeking qualified applicants to fill an Engineering Technician I/II (Engineering Technician 1A) position, grade A16/18, in the Site Road Processing Unit Division.

About the Position

This is entry level para-professional engineering work performed in the field or office, where the application of engineering skill is applied. Incumbents assist higher level para-professional or professional engineering positions by providing skilled and technical work in support of County-wide engineering and planning projects. Assignments are performed under the close supervision of a higher level engineering technician or engineer position. Employees in this class may provide technical guidance to subordinate level technical engineering personnel. Upon the satisfactory completion of a probationary period, incumbents may be non-competitively promoted to the II full performance level subject to management's discretion.

About The Agency

The Department of Permitting, Inspections and Enforcement (DPIE) is responsible for coordinating and enforcing standards that control what goes on before, during, and after construction. Staff from nine agencies, who work cooperatively on permit processing, business licensing, plan review, inspection and enforcement comprise Department of Permitting, Inspections, and Enforcement. The Mission of the Department of Permitting, Inspections, and Enforcement is to promote economic development in Prince George's County and protect the safety of County residents, businesses, and visitors through efficient permitting, inspection and licensing services to ensure compliance with established building, zoning and property standards codes.

Examples of Work

* Performs routine and less complex para-professional engineering work.

* Participates in field investigations and surveys of County engineering projects/activities in order to obtain first-hand information that will assist in evaluating the acceptability/ feasibility of a project and its compliance with established codes, policies, regulations, standards and specifications.

* Participates in the collection, compilation and analysis of engineering data, in order to make recommendations to the supervisor and complete assigned studies.

* Performs basic mathematical computations in order to tabulate statistical engineering data collected or compiled in the office or field.

* Assists in preparing plans and drawings and reviewing consultant plans using field notes or sketches from accurate use of County standards.

* Assists in assembling specifications into final form for projects designed in house and in reviewing some for-consultant projects.

* Maintains accurate, complete and retrievable data/statistics/documentation/logs for inclusion in reports, or to provide information as requested, using a knowledge of record maintenance. '

* Assists engineers and higher-level technicians in responding to inquiries and complaints from County residents, businesses, consultants and other agencies concerning engineering projects/activities either orally or in writing.

* May be required to use automated equipment in conjunction with assigned duties and responsibilities.

* Willingly and cooperatively performs tasks and duties which may not be specifically listed in the class specification or position description, but which are within the general occupational category and responsibility level typically associated with the employee's class of work.
