Who were looking for

Toyotas Materials Engineering Department is looking for a passionate and highly motivated Materials Engineer to work in the Paint Design and Development group.

The primary responsibility of this role is the development and instruction of new paint materials and colors applied in-house at Toyota North American manufacturing facilities.

Reporting to the Senior Manager, the person in this role will support the Materials Engineering Departments objective of implementing appealing products that meet customer and company needs.

What youll be doing

  • Lead the development, evaluation, and implementation of new paint materials and colors with suppliers, color design, sales, production engineering, quality engineering, and/or manufacturing groups.

  • Create paint instruction drawings for in-house parts to ensure optimal quality and cost.

  • Collaborate with internal/external departments and suppliers to improve paint quality, productivity, cost, and environmental impact at manufacturing plants as well as reduce development lead times.

  • Continuously review industry trends and competitive landscape to identify new ways to delight our customers.

What you bring

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Material Science, Chemical Engineering, or Chemistry AND/OR commensurate experience.

  • Proven experience in materials-related engineering function.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of material development and evaluation requirements.

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders to achieve company objectives.

  • Experience with project management, maintaining schedules, and reporting in a timely manner.

  • Willingness to travel domestically up to 25%.

Added bonus if you have

  • Completed Toyota Business Practice through Panel.

  • Knowledge of Toyota material development and process requirements.

  • Experience working with design, manufacturing, and evaluation of coatings; and/or automotive materials.

  • Experience working with Python or similar programming language.

  • Experience working with CATIA or other computer-aided design tools.

  • Experience with PowerApps and PowerBI.

  • Experience with applied statistics (i.e. confidence intervals, multivariate analysis, regression).

  • Experience with machine learning and/or AI concepts including but not limited to supervised learning and featuring engineering.

  • Experience with interpreting and validating model performance using metrics such as R2, cross-validation, etc.
