Plant Project Engineer (APC Plant Central AL)**
_This position will be located at APC Plant Central AL, located in Billingsley, AL_
**SUMMARY OF POSITION**
This engineer will be responsible for engineering related activities at a Combined Cycle Plant. This position is responsible for providing plant technical support and developing long term plans and budgets to maintain and improve equipment performance. Power Generation Engineers manage small and large capital and O&M projects, follow prescribed procedures and, under direct supervision, conduct analyses to develop design options or recommendations for structures, systems, and components.
**POSITION QUALIFICATIONS**
**_Education:_**
+ B.S. in Engineering from an ABET accredited institution is required.
+ B.S. in Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, or Chemical Engineering preferred, but willing to consider other engineering disciplines.
+ M.S. in Business or Engineering a plus.
**_Experience:_**
+ Proven problem-solving experience.
+ Ability to work with team members on maintenance and/or operation of the following types of equipment: pumps, motors, air/motor operated valves, manual valves, fans, condensers, boilers, HRSGs and turbines.
+ Desire to work in Electrical systems that may include the following equipment: variable frequency drives, DC emergency power systems including battery chargers, uninterruptible power supplies, bus fast transfer and maintenance switches, 480V - 4kV switchgear, excitation systems, and generator support.
+ Desire to work with control systems that include the following: electronics, instrumentation, program configuration, distributed/process control systems, and PLC's.
+ Demonstrated project management experience required.
+ Strong technical expertise and problem-solving abilities required.
**_Job Responsibilities:_**
+ Manage service agreements and contracts, in particular Long Term Service Agreements.
+ Outage/project management, project budget management, long term maintenance strategies, develop procedures and technical support to the plant.
+ Monitor plant performance and make recommendations to improve heat rate.
+ Utilize computer business tools to develop and justify budgets, write work orders, order material, develop project schedules, and monitor equipment.
+ Initiate, troubleshoot and review root cause analyses for system equipment failures.
+ Work with Southern Company Services, OEM's and system owners at other plants to stay current of any upgrades or concerns that affect the plant and communicate these needs to plant management, corporate management, and peer groups.
+ Track and report all GADS events.
+ Monitor plant performance and make recommendations to improve heat rate.
+ Develop 5- & 10-year capital budgets and justification for associated capital projects.
**_Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:_**
+ Proven leadership skills.
+ Good oral/written communication skills and ability to work effectively with varied individuals (craft personnel, support staff, supervisory staff, and management) is a must.
+ Strong organizational, administrative, time management, project management, facilitation and analytical skills are required.
+ Knowledge and experience with personal computers and the ability to learn numerous software applications quickly.
+ Self-motivation and demonstrated initiative is crucial for this position.
+ Ability to interface with vendors and contractors while representing the best interests of Southern Company.
+ Flexible to work across primary position boundaries by willingly accepting multiple roles as required to support plant needs.
**_Other Requirements:_**
+ Must be available to work nights, weekends and/or holidays as needed.
+ May require some extended work hours.
+ Must be able to be on-call for the plant for specified rotation frequencies, each occurrence being a week in length.
+ Minimal Travel required 15%
