Traffic Signals Technician (Engineering Technician II)
The City of Colorado Springs is ready to welcome an Engineering Technician II to the Signals Maintenance & Constructiion team! As an Engineering Technician II, you will construct, maintain, and repair traffic signals. You will also ensure that signals are constructed according to the MUTCD (Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices) and City Engineering standards and specifications.

Hourly Salary: $28.54 - $34.27
Job Type: Full-time; non-exempt
Work Schedule: 6:30AM - 5:00PM, with four (4) 10-hour workdays. Either Monday - Thursday or Tuesday - Friday, depending on the crew assignment after hire. This position also requires availability for rotating callouts.
As an Engineering Technician II for Signals Maintenance & Construction, you will:
- Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair traffic signal device malfunctions; evaluate equipment problems by interpreting blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams
- Coordinate with outside contractors, locating services, and other agencies, including Colorado Springs Utilities
- Establish schedules for projects; estimate time, materials, and equipment; order materials; and complete work orders
- Respond to, investigate, troubleshoot, and resolve inquires and complaints regarding traffic control systems and peripheral equipment
- Conduct traffic control activities to ensure worksite safety
- Complete complex testing and repairs to traffic controls, intelligent traffic systems, and fiber optic interconnects
- Ensure proper implementation of traffic control plans submitted by private contractors and City agencies involving construction in the City right-of-way
- Maintain logs and records relating to project activities
- Monitor construction activity and traffic control in construction zones
- Notify agencies of compliance standards
- Testify in court on a variety of traffic-related cases

We are looking for candidates who demonstrate:
Knowledge of:
- Principles and applications of transportation and traffic engineering
- Methods and techniques of data collection and analysis
- Principles and applications of traffic and pedestrian safety
- Methods and techniques used in the design of traffic signal plans
Ability to:
- Conduct a variety of traffic studies and analyze resulting data
- Coordinate various special events to ensure traffic and public safety
- Communicate clearly and concisely, verbally and in writing
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships
Minimum Qualifications
- Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade (high school diploma or GED)
- Three years of full-time engineering technology experience related to the area of assignment
- Possess, or obtain upon hire, and maintain a valid, non-probationary Colorado driver's license not subject to restriction related to alcohol and/or drug violations or pending charges

Preferred Qualifications
- Possess, or obtain within 12-months of hire, IMSA (International Municipal Signal Association) Level II Signal Certification
- An associate's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in electrical/electronic engineering or a related field OR completion of an electronics trade school
- ATSSA (American Traffic Safety Services Association) or equivalent traffic control certification
