Position Summary & Responsibilities:

Position Summary:

This District Construction & Materials Engineer position works in the District 6 office located in Garden, KS.

This position advises three Construction Engineers and one Construction Coordinator and District Construction Mentor in the administration of construction and materials activities in the district. Work includes interpreting plans and specifications, participation in pre-construction conferences, field checks and final inspections. Mediates disputes between construction personnel and contractors. Negotiates extra work with contractors. Makes frequent inspections of construction projects.

Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:

  • Advises three professional engineers (Area Engineers), three Construction Engineers and one Construction Coordinator in the administration of construction and materials activities in the district. Work includes interpreting plans and specifications, participation in pre-construction conferences, field checks and final inspections.
  • Administers and directs the District Materials laboratory in required material sampling, testing, and mix design procedures within the district. Included is a district-wide quality assurance control program for construction projects.
  • Administers and directs the activity of one professional engineer (Assistant Construction/Materials Engineer) in the administration of construction & materials activities in the district.
  • Administers and directs the activities of the District SurvePosyor position
  • Advises Area Engineers, Construction Engineers & Construction Coordinator on construction and materials policies as established by Topeka Headquarters.
  • Directs or provides for the training of personnel under his/her supervision; encourages and supports the self-development, growth, and achievements of these employees.
  • Reviews construction and materials reports for details and completeness. Prepares portion of annual district budget for review by District Engineer.
  • Responds to emergency situations which occur outside regular working hours such as snow removal, accidents, and natural disasters.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Professional Engineering License recognized by the Kansas Board of Technical Professions
  • Six years of experience in engineering
  • Valid Driver's License at time of appointment.
