HOURS OF WORK : Monday to Friday, 08:00 to 17:00
LOCATION : 3000 Arctic Boulevard
Remote work schedule opportunities (telecommuting) may be considered after successful completion of probation, at the discretion of management and with the approval of the department head. Not all positions are eligible for remote work (telecommuting) per P&P 40-40.

Under limited supervision, the Engineering Technician III position performs duties at a skilled engineering level. Responsible for administering Anchorage Water and Wastewater Utility's (AWWU's) water and wastewater special assessment programs and maintaining assessment file. Researches and calculates water and wastewater assessments. Prepares necessary documents and documentation in order to levy water and wastewater special assessments. Provides the public with information on water and wastewater expansion programs. Adds and maintains information to applicable AWWU databases. Reviews and comments on water and wastewater designs for conformance with standard construction specifications, design criteria, and AWWU's tariffs. Performs a variety of other tasks specific to general operations within the Planning Section requiring good customer service, and administrative, research, and organizational skills. Perform other duties as assigned.Participates in major emergencies or disasters as outlined in AWWUs disaster plan matrix, which defines each employees potential duties and responsibilities. This may include 12-hour work shifts, which may continue for 72 hours or more starting at any time an event might occur, 7 days a week, 24 hours per day.
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent, and five (5) years of experience in one or more of the following fields: drafting, surveying, inspection, materials testing, plan review, permitting, computerized mapping, computer assisted design (CAD), traffic signal control, and/or code enforcement, and at least one (1) year of which must have been at the Engineering Technician II level with Municipality or equivalent elsewhere.OR
Associates degree in Engineering, Geomatics, Construction Management, Computer Assisted Design (CAD), or a discipline specific to the department, and three (3) years of experience in one or more of the following fields: drafting, surveying, inspection, materials testing, plan review, permitting, computerized mapping, computer assisted design CAD), traffic signal control and/or code enforcement, and at least one (1) year of which must have been at the Engineering Technician II level with the Municipality or the equivalent elsewhere.
OR
Bachelors degree in Engineering, Geomatics, Construction Management, or a discipline specific to the department, and one (1) year of experience at the Engineering Technician II level with the Municipality or the equivalent elsewhere.
Must possess and/or obtain a satisfactory background check which includes criminal, education, and employment history at time of hire.
Preference:
- State of Alaska Driver's License.
- ESRI Technical Certification(s) or other Equivalent Industry Certifications or equivalent industry certifications.

Military Service Interview Preference

The minimum qualifications of the position must be met for preference consideration.
