POSITION OBJECTIVE:

To assist engineering services with all projects assigned in an efficient and cost-effective manner. This position is accountable for the proper engineering and design of the cooperatives distribution lines in accordance with cooperative specifications, RUS construction specifications and the NESC. This position assists with scheduling and inspecting OH and UG contractors work performed on the cooperatives system. This position is also responsible for assisting with administering system inspection and joint use programs, as well as assisting with GIS field work and warehousing as assigned

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensures construction units and continuing property records (CPR) are accurate on assigned projects, that job costs are properly coded in the accounting system, that costs are allocated as outlined in RUS guideline.
  • Regularly perform field work in external conditions on assigned projects as well as during emergency-related power restoration.
  • Performs distribution engineering of line extensions for new services and line relocating, including cost estimates, and procurement of right-of-way easements and three-phase and other special service agreements as assigned.
  • Assists in the management of the Cooperatives system inspection and hazard recognition programs as well as maintenance of underground and overhead lines.
  • Coordinates the cooperatives pole inspection and joint use program.
  • Assist with the planning, design, and construction of special projects assigned, e.g., subdivisions, large industrial services, lighting proposals, and road jobs.
  • Assist with scheduling and inspecting OH and UG contractors work performed on the cooperatives system
  • Performs load balances on assigned projects.
  • Assist with GIS fieldwork as assigned.
  • Assist with warehousing needs as assigned.
  • Responsible for recognizing safety hazards out in the field. This could be low lines, code violations or unsafe acts in vicinity to cooperative facilities. This involves educating member owner on unsafe conditions and bringing back up to code.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Skills and knowledge normally acquired through an associate degree in a related technical area. Three years relevant experience preferred. Experience in a relevant position may be considered in lieu of education. Significant computer skills, including (but not limited to) Microsoft Excel and Word are required. Must be self-motivated with strong technical skills and a quick learner.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. Must be able to carry up to 20 pounds. Must be able to work in extreme temperatures (0 to 100 degrees F), in ice, snow, rain, sun, etc. Must be able to walk a mile over uneven terrain, jump ditches, and any other requirement associated with power line staking.
