Northrop Grumman is seeking an Associate Tool Design Engineer (level 1) or Tool Design Engineer (level 2). This position will be located at our Aeronautics Systems Sector in Roy, Utah.

Our team designs Tooling to support Aerospace composite part fabrication, handling, and assembly for the commercial and defense aerospace industries. Engineers get the opportunity to manage their work from design concept thru implementation. Our Tooling Team works independently, but interacts closely with safety, engineering, manufacturing, and customers to achieve expectations.

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Design simple to mid- level Tooling, Drill and Assembly Jigs, and Dies via Catia and/or NX to support production.

  • Properly layout drawings using views and dimensions that are in compliance with ASME Y14.1-5 standards.

  • Conceptualize designs in 3D, detail the CAD model and detail the drawings for fabrication.

  • Execution of design and fabrication requirements for tools and fixtures with customers.

  • Perform tolerance analysis and apply appropriate GD&T to ensure form, fit, and function.

  • Conduct root cause failure investigations and implement associated corrective actions.

  • Maintains tooling documentation related to design & analysis, fabrication, and proofing

  • Documents stress analysis of tools for compliance to requirements

  • Uses Microsoft applications to communicate and present tooling progress

This requisition may be filled as an Associate Tool Design Engineer (Level 1) or a Tool Design Engineer (Level 2).

Basic Qualifications for an Associate Tool Design Engineer:

A candidate, regardless of age and hiring source, must meet ALL of the below criteria. The candidate must:

  • Be completing or has completed their Bachelors degree from an accredited institution

  • Be majoring in or having majored in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or related STEM degree.

  • Be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance (U.S. citizenship is a pre-requisite) as well as Program Special access within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company to meet its business needs (U.S. citizenship is a pre-requisite). Final approved U.S. Government security clearance (U.S. citizenship is a pre-requisite) as well as Program Special Access may be required to start.

  • Be majoring in or having majored in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or related STEM degree.

  • Be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance (U.S. citizenship is a pre-requisite) as well as Program Special access within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company to meet its business needs (U.S. citizenship is a pre-requisite). Final approved U.S. Government security clearance (U.S. citizenship is a pre-requisite) as well as Program Special Access may be required to start.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Have an overall cumulative GPA of 3.25/4.0 or higher

  • Previous internship/co-op or other work experience, leadership & teamwork capabilities, interpersonal communication skills, and activities (professional/community/extracurricular)

  • Project management exposure

Pay Range:

  • Associate Tool Design Engineer: $58,200 $87,200

  • Tool Design Engineer: $70,200 $105,400
