Mechanical Engineer

A Mechanical Engineer is needed for a manufacturing company considered one of the world's leading innovators in materials science in the Corning, NY area. This senior-level role focuses on the full-cycle design, build, and troubleshooting of precision motion systems and tooling for manufacturing, requiring deep mechanical expertise, hands-on installation skills, and strong collaboration across teams.

responsibilities:

• Serve as Senior Mechanical Design Engineer for precision motion systems and custom precision tooling/fixturing.
  
  
• Own full lifecycle of equipment: design, build, vendor management, and debug.
  
  
• Support installation and troubleshooting of fiber/connector manufacturing process equipment.
  
  
• Collaborate with multifunctional teams: mechanical, electrical, controls, facilities, IT, operations, etc.
  
  
• Lead equipment layout verification, debug, and resolution of build discrepancies.
  
  
• Engage with vendors and internal engineers to ensure successful equipment delivery and operation.

Skills:

• strong expertise in precision engineering principles.
  
  
• Proven experience in designing and building precision motion systems.
  
  
• Proficient in SolidWorks for mechanical design.
  
  
• Skilled in structural FEA (Finite Element Analysis).
  
  
• Hands-on experience in installing, starting up, and debugging mechanical equipment in a manufacturing setting.
  
  
• Application of mechanical principles: mechanics, hydraulics, thermodynamics, metallurgy, and machine design.

Education and Experience:

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechatronics (mandatory).
  
  
• Minimum 10 years of mechanical design experience (mandatory).
