Position Title: Sr. Electrical Engineer

Reports to: Instrumentation and Electrical Department Manager

Position Status: Permanent Full Time

FLSA Status: Exempt (STOT)

Location: Hybrid

Work Schedule: Standard schedule is Monday through Friday.

Purpose: The Sr. Electrical Engineer provides specification of electrical equipment, technical analysis, and/or resolution of engineering and design problems. Gives direction and coordination of electrical engineering aspects and designs for power distribution systems in Refining, Petro-Chemical, and Chemical facilities.

Core Job Responsibilities

  • Specifying power distribution systems for industrial projects with coordination with other disciplines and clients.
  • Working with and specifying systems from 120V up through 35kV. Experience with high voltage systems of 69kV and above is preferred.
  • Develop one-line diagrams, data sheets, load lists, motor schematics, hazardous area classification requirements and facilitate engineering deliverables for design package issuance.
  • Checking calculations such as cable-sizing, load study calculations, and electrical equipment rating verifications.
  • Specify electrical equipment and follow through from RFQ development through PO award. Experience with equipment FATs is preferred.
  • Managing the cost and time constraints of multiple projects at one time.
  • Preparing and maintain all safety and environmental aspects of a project.
  • Work within company policy as outlined in the H+M Employee Handbook as well as the H+M Safety Manual and OSHA Safety rules.

Essential Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • 15+ years of in-depth experience in engineering design and construction within the petrochemical industries.
  • Current Texas Professional Engineer License (preferred).
  • Strong knowledge of power system studies including load flow, short circuit, motor-starting analysis, relay coordination, and arc flash evaluations using ETAP and/or PowerTools SKM software.
  • Familiarity with current industrial codes (API, NEMA, IEEE, PIP, NEC)
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD, Microstation, and SmartPlant Electrical is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and capable of establishing respect and credibility through actions, communications, understanding and personal presence.
  • Ability to work with others to achieve job goals.

Physical Requirements

  • Occasionally lift objects weighing up to 25 pounds
  • Sit for long periods of time
  • Occasionally stoop, kneel or crouch
  • Use hands and arms to reach for, grasp and manipulate objects

Environment:

Working conditions encountered in this job include those found in a typical office setting as well as an indoor/outdoor manufacturing setting which includes exposure to outside weather conditions, work at elevated heights, climbing of stairs and ladders, and physical manipulation of tools and mechanical equipment. This job demands the use of typical manufacturing personal protective equipment as well as advanced protective equipment as needed.
