Job Description As a Research and Development Engineer, you will focus on designing new industrial packaging equipment. Your role will involve using SolidWorks to design and develop parts and assemblies, creating models, assembly drawings, and manufacturing/fabrication drawings. You will conduct market research to identify emerging trends, technologies, and materials, and collaborate with teams to translate customer needs into product concepts. Additionally, you will evaluate and experiment with materials to enhance performance, sustainability, and cost-effectiveness, oversee prototyping and testing phases, and implement testing protocols to validate new packaging concepts. Responsibilities
- Design and develop parts and assemblies using SolidWorks.
- Create models, assembly drawings, and manufacturing/fabrication drawings.
- Conduct market research to identify emerging trends, technologies, and materials.
- Collaborate with teams to translate voice of customer and market needs into product concepts.
- Evaluate and experiment with materials to enhance performance, sustainability, and cost-effectiveness.
- Oversee the prototyping and testing phases of new product development.
- Implement testing protocols to validate the performance and durability of new packaging concepts.
- Work closely with internal teams to ensure integration of new products into the sales and production pipeline.
- Communicate with external partners, suppliers, and industry experts.
- Prepare reports and presentations to update stakeholders on the progress of ongoing projects.
- Support existing products including root cause analysis, engineering changes requests, and manufacturing support.
- Bachelors degree in engineering.
- 3 plus years of experience in the packaging industry with a focus on food and/or beverage.
- Proficiency in SolidWorks or Autodesk Inventor.
- Strong understanding of materials, manufacturing processes, and quality standards.
- Experience in research and development of new products.
- Mathcad, FEA, or CFD experience.
- Product manufacturing information (PMI) knowledge.
- Familiarity with machine tools.
- Experience in conveyance and new product development.
