Mechanical Design Engineer Job Description

We are seeking a talented Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team. This role involves reviewing engineering drawings and technical documentation for compliance with applicable standards, documenting welding and design processes, and modifying existing designs to enhance manufacturability and efficiency. The position offers the opportunity to design new products and solutions for vehicle platforms and participate in resolving technical, operational, and quality issues.

Responsibilities

  • Review engineering drawings and technical documentation for compliance with applicable standards, including Y14.5, Y14.24, Y14.34, and MIL-STD-973.
  • Document welding and design processes using D1.1 Structural Welding Code and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing.
  • Modify existing engineering designs to improve manufacturability and efficiency.
  • Design new products and solutions for new and existing vehicle platforms.
  • Document in-house analyses and data to ensure compliance with customer requirements.
  • Participate in the resolution of technical, operational, and quality issues that cannot be resolved by internal or external customers.
  • Assist in the development of work instructions for engineering and production processes.
  • Develop and update technical drawings using SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
  • Create military technical drawings using applicable military and industry standards.
  • Develop 3D model files from 2D documentation and/or actual equipment.
  • Produce accurate and compliant 2D documentation from 3D model files.
  • Communicate effectively with customers and co-workers to resolve ongoing issues.
Essential Skills
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in mechanical design.
  • Proficiency in sheet metal design and SolidWorks.
  • Ability to handle both brand new designs and rework previous drawings.
  • Experience with AutoCAD and laser scanning is nice to have.
Other Skills & Qualifications
  • Familiarity with Y14.5, Y14.24, Y14.34, MIL-STD-973, and D1.1 Structural Welding Code.
  • Proficiency in MS Office.
  • Experience with AutoCAD (though primarily SolidWorks is used).
Work Environment

Schedule: 4/10's, 10 hour shifts, 4 days a week.

Shift: 6am to 4:30pm.

This role is within a smaller company of 92 employees, providing a personal impact on the company's operations. You will work in an office located on the manufacturing floor, contributing to the manufacturing of products applied to bullet trains. The environment is dynamic, with new challenges and opportunities to learn each day.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $90000.00 - $100000.00/hr.
