Northrop Grumman is seeking a highly motivated and self-driven S enior Principal Mechanical Engineer to join our engineering team in Roy, Utah . This team is responsible for the design, development, testing, delivery, and operation of the Sentinel Training System devices and support systems.

As a Mechanical Engineer specializing in the development of weapon system training devices, you will play a crucial role in designing and constructing advanced simulation equipment that enhances weapon system training capabilities. Your expertise will be pivotal in creating realistic and reliable training systems that replicate the functionality and performance of actual weapon systems. This position requires a deep understanding of mechanical design principles, material selection, and fabrication techniques to ensure the devices meet stringent operational and safety standards. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to integrate cutting-edge technologies and ensure seamless functionality, ultimately contributing to the effectiveness and readiness of military personnel. Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design and development of training device mechanical systems and components, ensuring they meet project specifications and requirements.

  • Analyze and assess operational systems to assist in the design and test of training device systems

  • Utilize advanced engineering principles to create innovative solutions for complex mechanical challenges.

  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams to integrate mechanical designs with other training device system components.

  • Develop and implement testing protocols to assess the functionality and reliability of training device mechanical systems

  • Design for maintainability

  • Execute through mechanical analysis of the design, detailed drawing creation, and system installation while managing cost, scope, and schedule of the design

  • Write documentation for production and maintenance procedures

  • Develop and implement testing strategies to validate system functionality and performance.

  • Analyze test results and implement necessary modifications to optimize system performance.

  • Support design through system installation, testing, operation, and training

  • Assist the design and integration of complex systems, ensuring they meet all technical and operational requirements.

  • Develop system architectures and frameworks that support project goals and objectives.

  • Analyze and derive requirements

  • Conduct thorough analysis of system requirements, translating them into detailed specifications and actionable plans.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure all requirements are accurately captured and addressed.

  • Lead technical reviews and assessments to ensure system designs meet quality and performance standards.

  • Drive innovation by exploring new materials, technologies, and methodologies to improve training device system designs.

  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement within the engineering team.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders, including clients and vendors, to understand project needs and deliver solutions.

  • Communicate effectively with team members and management to report on project progress and challenges.

This positions standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.

Youll Bring These Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university and 8 years of experience; 6 years of experience with a Master's degree; 4 years of experience with PHD.

  • Must have an active U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance at time of application, current and within scope, with an ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) approval within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company to meet its business need.

  • 2 years experience with design and development of weapon system training devices.

  • Extensive experience in mechanical engineering with a proven track record in designing and developing complex systems.

  • Experience in leading engineering projects and teams is often required.

  • Experience with 3D CAD model-based software and analysis tools

  • Experience with MS Office suite tools

  • Effective verbal and written communication

These Qualifications Would be Nice to Have:

  • Previous experience on Sentinel program.

  • Strong teamwork skills with both immediate team and customer counterparts

  • Excellent interpersonal, written communication, and presentation skills, including the ability to clearly and succinctly communicate complex concepts

  • Exposure to missiles program requirements & with propulsion

  • Proficient with 3D design/2D drawing CAD in NX

  • Proficient with PDM and/or CPLM

Salary Range: $107,800.00 - $161,800.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
