We are seeking a capable and motivated Packaging Engineer to support packaging initiatives for the Consumer Products Group (CPG) during a 5-month contract assignment. This individual will contribute to the packaging development process, collaborating with cross-functional teams and supporting various packaging projects. The ideal candidate will bring solid technical knowledge, strong organizational skills, and a willingness to learn.
The position involves working on primary and transportation package design, die line creation, packaging testing, and documentation. This is a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience while making meaningful contributions to a wide range of packaging projects.
Key Responsibilities
As a Packaging Engineer, this individual will:
- Design and develop structural packaging solutions to support product launches
- Support internal and external testing of packaging components and systems
- Create and revise die lines for primary and secondary packaging
- Prepare and maintain materials specifications and documentation for RFQs
- Contribute to packaging development activities throughout the lifecycle of a product
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Marketing, Industrial Design, Engineering, Regulatory) to meet project timelines
- Support continuous improvement initiatives
- Assist in testing processes using ASTM/ISTA methods and retailer compliance requirements
- Create standard packaging drawings and help manage documentation
- Gain experience working with packaging materials including chipboard, corrugated fiberboard, and plastics
Supportive Duties
- Communicate regularly with external vendors and suppliers to support prototyping, development, and testing
- Provide technical assistance for legacy packaging improvements or updates
- Help review and validate labeling for primary and transport packaging in collaboration with Brand and Regulatory teams
Skills and Qualifications
- 1-3 years of relevant packaging engineering experience (internships or co-ops may count toward this).
- Experience in consumer product packaging for retail and direct-to-consumer channels preferred.
- Proficient in packaging design tools such as ArtiosCAD; familiarity with SolidWorks and PDM is a plus.
- Basic understanding of ISTA and ASTM testing protocols.
- Comfortable working with standard packaging materials (corrugated, chipboard, plastics).
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Good communication skills to share ideas and ask questions in a team setting.
- Willingness to take initiative and problem solve.
- Ability to create and maintain packaging documentation and specifications.
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Packaging Science, Packaging Engineering, or a related field
