Who We Are Looking For: Phoenix Tailings is looking for an Electrical Engineer I to join our growing engineering team and support the development, deployment, and scale-up of our rare earth and critical metals processing systems. This role will directly contribute to the design, implementation, and testing of electrical systems that power clean, next-generation metallurgy. Youll be hands-on across both R&D and pilot-scale operationshelping build and maintain the electrical backbone of our critical infrastructure. This is a multi-site role based out of our Exeter, NH and Burlington, MA facilities. Key Responsibilities:
  • Support the design, assembly, and troubleshooting of electrical systems for R&D and pilot-scale chemical processing equipment
  • Assist in the development of electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and panel layouts using CAD software
  • Help specify components and electrical hardware (motors, VFDs, PLCs, sensors, relays, etc.) based on system requirements
  • Conduct hands-on wiring, testing, and commissioning of new equipment and control panels
  • Support safety reviews and ensure electrical designs comply with relevant codes and standards (NFPA 70, NEC, etc.)
  • Collaborate with process and mechanical engineers to integrate electrical systems into fully functional units
  • Participate in testing of sensors, instrumentation, and control systems for real-time process monitoring
  • Maintain documentation of all electrical work including schematics, BOMs, and system settings
  • Troubleshoot and repair existing electrical systems and equipment as needed across both sites
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of system reliability and scalability
Qualifications:
  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related discipline
  • 13 years of relevant experience in an industrial, manufacturing, or R&D environment (internship/co-op experience welcome)
  • Familiarity with low-voltage power systems, sensors, and motor control systems
  • Hands-on experience with electrical assembly, wiring, or panel building is strongly preferred
  • Proficiency with electrical design tools (e.g., AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN, or similar)
  • Understanding of industrial safety and compliance standards (NEC, UL, etc.)
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and wiring diagrams
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and willingness to get hands-on with real hardware
  • Ability to split time effectively between two physical locations (Burlington and Exeter)
  • Passion for building sustainable infrastructure and solving real-world engineering challenge
