Ashland has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Process Safety Engineer. This is a very visible, significant role that will lead process safety improvement initiatives and activities across the organization. This position will report to the EHS Director. This is a remote-based position with approximately 30% travel.

The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Provides leadership in driving the company's efforts around safe, compliant, and responsible operations with a primary emphasis on driving process safety incident performance results to ZERO.
  • Acts as a main point of contact for multiple global facilities regarding process safety performance, technical support, and adherence to regulatory requirements (OSHA PSM, Seveso, etc.) and Ashland's Global Process Safety Standard.
  • Applies technical knowledge to process safety incident investigations. Works with manufacturing team members to identify and implement improvement recommendations.
  • Leads internal and external resources regarding Process Hazard Analysis/Layer of Protection Analysis (PHA/LOPA), Combustible Dust Assessment (CDA), Facility Siting risk assessment, and Consequence Modeling
  • Participates in or directs outside resources to complete process safety compliance audits.
  • Provides guidance on process safety for the transition of new processes developed by Ashland's Global Technology Organization from laboratory to production.
  • Tracks and reports PSM Tier 1 and 2 process safety events.
  • With input from Ashland's Asset Integrity & Reliability Group, ensure process safety relief calculations are performed appropriately by internal or external resources
  • Provides guidance on and updates to Ashland's process safety procedures as necessary regarding regulatory updates - such as OSHA PSM, EPA RMP, NJDEP, Seveso, API, NFPA, DIERS, etc.

To be qualified for this role, you must possess the following:

  • A relevant science/engineering degree
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in process safety and/or related process engineering field in the chemical manufacturing industry
  • Experience working in a specialty chemical manufacturing, petrochemical, or refinery setting
  • Working knowledge of regulatory requirements and RAGAGEP (e.g., OSHA PSM, EPA RMP, NJDEP, Seveso, API, NFPA, DIERS, etc)
  • Working knowledge in consequence modeling and/or process simulation software is a plus (e.g., PHAST, Superchems, Aspen, etc)
  • Expertise in PSM elements with a focus on PSI, PHA, MOC/PSSR, and MI
  • Excellent communication skills required
  • Ability to travel up to 30%, both domestically and internationally

The following skill sets are preferred:

  • Experience in pressure relief design and analysis (DIERS)
  • Experience working in both a manufacturing and a corporate setting
  • Process safety certification (CCPSC) or the ability to obtain within 12 months
  • Leadership experience in a Technical Area is preferred
