At Northrop Grumman Defense Systems we have an exceptional opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer to support our Armament Systems Business Unit located in Mesa, AZ .
Armament Systems is a leading supplier of integrated medium-caliber weapon systems for land, air and sea platforms through its world-renowned Bushmaster line of automatic cannons produced at its Mesa, Arizona facility.
Responsibilities of this role:
- The Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for mechanical design of new and mature medium caliber weapon systems.
- Applies mechanical design knowledge to ensure design of gun systems and associated components meets design standards for function, fit, and safety.
- Works with design, project manufacturing, and quality engineers though the development process.
- Adheres to and maintains Northrop Grummans engineering process to include concept through production design and design standards.
- Presents work at design reviews and program technical reviews.
- Reviews engineering designs and drawings for tolerances, surface finishes, dimensions, material selection, processing, heat treat etc., and initiates engineering change orders as required.
- Applies engineering knowledge in the investigation and solution of complex technical problems.
- Supports manufacturing trade studies and early supplier involvement.
- Works effectively with minimal supervision.
- Position may require occasional travel to meet with various customers, in both government and industry, and to interface with suppliers.
Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in STEM field (science, technology, engineering, or mathematics) plus 2 years of relevant experience in an engineering position.
- Major in mechanical engineering is highly desired
- Proficiency with MS Office applications
- U.S. Citizenship
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Clearance
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with engineering simulation tools or software such as Ansys, Teamcenter/NX
- Self-motivated and enjoy hands-on work.
- Mechanically inclined ability to understand and work with tools and machinery
