Description

We are looking for a Process Engineer III with a mechanical engineering background to join our team at LightForce Orthodontics. You will join a growing team that is designing and implementing advanced manufacturing processes to enable mass production of customized medical devices.

As Process Engineer III, you will lead development, industrialization and scale-up of processes across printing, post-processing, part handling and inspection. You will additionally support ongoing production through troubleshooting, root cause analysis and validation work. The ideal candidate will have a track record of hands-on execution, including experience standing up new processes in industrial manufacturing environments.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Design and implement new processes to improve efficiency, scalability and quality, including automated solutions for part handling, identification and inspection
  • Design and build functional prototypes to validate manufacturing concepts and refine system requirements
  • Work with systems that may include robotics, motion control, machine vision, machine learning, fluid handling and pumps, etc.
  • Manage technical projects to scale up processes from throughputs of 100s of parts per day to 10,000+ parts per day, owning vendor selection, requirements definition, risk management, timelines and implementation
  • Establish SPC and data monitoring dashboards to monitor and analyze production metrics
  • Create and maintain documentation for work instructions and SOPs

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field and minimum 5 years of relevant industry experience OR
  • Master's degree and minimum 3 years of relevant industry experience

Required Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience troubleshooting and optimizing manufacturing processes and equipment
  • Mechanical design skills with CAD proficiency
  • Hands-on experience building and prototyping electromechanical systems
  • Strong analytical and engineering problem-solving abilities
  • Interest in advanced manufacturing methods and solving problems inherent to the scale-up of new technologies
  • Self-motivated with proven ability to execute and deliver results
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams

Physical Demands

  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, hand, and finger manipulation
  • Perform work activities with production chemicals, adhesives and epoxies, using required personal protective equipment

Work Environment

  • Office environment up to 100%
  • Work is sometimes performed in an open office, sedentary position
  • Limited temperature fluctuations, heated and air conditioned environment
  • Work is performed near moving mechanical parts and occasionally with sensitive chemicals
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate
