The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) is seeking an Engineering Technician to join our team. This Engineering Technician operates in the District Design Section and assists with the planning, preparation and development of road design.

Possession of a high school diploma or GED.
SUBSTITUTIONS:
Six months of experience in sub-professional engineering, heavy mobile equipment operation, or mobile equipment maintenance will substitute for the high school diploma or GED.

Job Duties:
Prepares typical sections, special details, item quantities, and summary of estimated quantities for resurfacing projects, microsurfacing, widening, turn lanes, and other design projects.
Creates details for complicated and varied situations requiring a more in-depth knowledge of road design and a high level of technical proficiency.
Assists in the development of complex suggested sequence of construction using the latest version of the MUTCD and DOTD TC details.
Assists in the preparation of Design / Exception Reports, Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPP), Notice of Intents (NOI), Transportation Management Plans, Trainee Determination Worksheets, Contract Time Work Sheets and other documents.
Plots and drafts very complex engineering/surveying drawings using computer and drafting software; calculates complex quantities; processes and downloads engineering/surveying data necessary to complete engineering designs and surveys.
Produces estimates and exports to AASHTOware.
Requests project numbers, projectwise folders, traffic information, and other pertinent data from Area Engineers, Project Engineers, the lab, etc. in order to design the projects.
Prepares letter bid proposals and specifications and distributes to contractors for bidding.
Produces contract documents and specification packages for construction, and composes and distributes letter bid documents for maintenance contracts (e.g. mowing, guardrail, rest area, sweeping, etc.) and other DOTD service contracts.

Career Progression: This position may be filled as an Engineering Technician 1, 2, 3, or 4.
Compensation: The starting salary and Premium Pay amount for each level is shown below:
Engineering Technician 1 - Starting salary is $12.22/hourly with an additional $2.00 optional pay for every hour worked.
Engineering Technician 2 - Starting salary is $14.00/hourly with an additional $2.00 optional pay for every hour worked.
Engineering Technician 3 - Starting salary is $16.03/hourly with an additional $2.00 optional pay for every hour worked.
Engineering Technician 4 - Starting salary is $18.35/hourly with an additional $2.00 optional pay for every hour worked
