- Act as TC Energys Technical Authority and subject matter expert (SME) for Balance of Plant (BOP) mechanical systems and equipment on compressor station and meter station facility assets.
- BOP systems under the technical authority of this role include: Separation and filtration systems, piping insulation systems, cranes, silencers, heat exchange systems and systems related to LNG assets.
- Act as the document contact for applicable engineering standards including maintaining and improving requirements based on performance, feedback and learning, and advise on variance requests.
- Drive value based efforts on engineering requirements and in support of projects, including improving compressor station design standard for US Gas.
- Maintain understanding of and advise on legal requirements, external codes and standards, and act as TC Energys representative on targeted technical code committees and industry associations.
- Establish criteria for and provide technical review of service providers and vendors to meet BOP standards.
- Provide Tier 3 level SME support to Operations Engineering including specialized support for escalated and complex engineering issues, high risk incidents and investigations, and cross system issues and trends.
- Support General Plant Maintenance Capital (GPMC) program development in collaboration with Operations Engineering including SME advisement on asset strategies, risk assessments, alternatives, and optimization.
- Be a conduit for information sharing by communicating best practices, improvement opportunities, new technologies and general information to others in the organization.
- Develop and oversee asset management and maintenance strategies to balance reliability performance, cost and risk for BOP systems.
- Initiate and lead research and development projects to improve equipment design, engineering standards and/or methods.
- Maintain strategic supplier and vendor relationships for asset management strategies, industry understanding, engagement in issues and innovation.
- Support project engineering in design through critical review activities and strategic SME input including participation in critical design reviews where SME depth is necessary.
Minimum Qualifications
- University degree in Mechanical Engineering. Professional Engineering license considered an asset.
- Minimum of 15 years of progressive relevant experience.
- In depth of knowledge of applicable industry Codes and Standards related to facilities engineering (e.g. CFR 192, CSA Z662, ASME B31.3, ASME B31.8, ASME Section VIII, API pressure equipment standards).
- Technical experience in asset management, risk management, reliability optimization and condition based maintenance.
- Experience in the development and management of engineering standards, specifications and procedures.
- Technical experience in facilities engineering design, design oversight and quality assurance.
- Exceptional interpersonal, communication and influencing skills to be able to partner and work with company stakeholders across North America with different backgrounds and priorities.
- Pragmatic with strong decision making skills and engineering judgment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with LNG facilities engineering, processes and equipment assets considered an asset.
- Deep engineering expertise in BOP mechanical systems and equipment.
- Experience with research and development, innovation and equipment technology development.
- Experience with modern condition monitoring and predictive analytical methods and their applicability to BOP equipment.
- Demonstrated ability to pick-up and resolve new and emerging engineering problems that have ambiguity including strong personal accountability and self-development.
- Demonstrated ability to clearly and effectively communicate complex issues to different levels of leadership.
- Strong negotiation and conflict management skills.
