As a Network Development Engineer (NDE), you will play a pivotal role in designing innovative network automation services. These services will be instrumental in monitoring, troubleshooting, and debugging the Kuiper Satellite Network. In this capacity, you will not only develop novel automation solutions but also actively participate in the on-call rotation, ensuring prompt and effective resolution of network issues. Additionally, you will be responsible for conducting extensive lab testing of both hardware and software components, as well as engaging in research and design activities to optimize the satellite network and ensure it meets the evolving needs of our customers.

Key job responsibilities
Network Development Engineers perform high quality network and/or systems operations, deployments, scaling, technology refresh, sustaining engineering, best practices application, optimization, internal/external customer interactions, and produce appropriate technical documentation.
- Continuously strive for operational excellence by seeking to automate away manual processes
- Design robust, scalable, maintainable, and adaptable networks based on customer needs and business requirements
- Select and test network equipment for new initiatives and lifecycle replacement
- Deep dive at hardware, software and protocol level to root cause faults and identify areas of improvement.
- Integrate solutions into existing highly available physical and cloud networks
- Develop and document standards for network monitoring metrics, trouble ticket handling, performance dashboards, and incident response
- Mentor engineers and collaborate with other networking, systems development, and software teams
- Provide support and incident response as part of an on-call rotation
A day in the life
A Network Development Engineer in Optical Network Operations is responsible for designing, developing, testing, deploying, and operating network equipment that enables broadband network systems worldwide. We define standards, test platforms, and design for resiliency and scalability. We work in collaboration with other teams for designing and delivering flexible, low latency, and high throughput network functions. We develop cost-effective solutions in support of connecting and peering with public and private networks.
This is an on-site role that requires employees to work from the company's office 5 days per week. Remote work is not an option for this position.

- 1+ years of major internet routing protocols experience in a large-scale environment.
- 1+ years of working in a Linux/Unix environment experience
- 1+ years of automation scripting using Python, Bash, Shell and/or Perl experience
- Experience with TCP/IP networking, IP routing, and Network Security architecture and core technologies such as IP, TCP, OSPF/IS-IS, BGP, MPLS, Firewalls, ACLs, DNS, DHCP, IPAM, etc.
- Experience building, integrating, and maintaining systems for managing and monitoring both physical and cloud-based optical network.
- Experience in developing alarming systems, alarming correlation, tools to identify faults in Optical, Layer-2 and Layer-3 networks such as identifying packet drops, link flaps, link degrades, etc.
- Experience in developing runbooks and workflows required to mitigate network impacts.
- Experience in developing complex network dashboard based on multi-metrics showing network health and faults.
- 3+ year of Optical network design, troubleshooting, operation experience in large scale network in a complex, ambiguous and fast paced environment.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $102,700/year in our lowest geographic market up to $185,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
