A Mechanical Engineer is needed for a manufacturing company considered one of the world's leading innovators in materials science in the Hickory, NC area. This position will provide design, integration, and hands-on mechanical support for fiber optic cable manufacturing equipment, leveraging skills in Inventor, GD&T, and system troubleshooting while collaborating with a cross-functional team.

responsibilities:
  • Serve as a mechanical design resource for projects.

  • Design tooling and mechanical assemblies using Inventor or AutoCAD.

  • Revise equipment drawings and develop experimental plans to validate designs.

  • Source components, manage assembly, and perform hands-on work.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues during design integration into production equipment.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (IT, electrical, and process engineers).

  • Update documentation and support training for operations.

  • Manage mechanics/electricians for equipment assembly and installation.
Skills:

  • Experience with mechanical system design and integration.

  • Proficiency in 3D CAD software like Inventor.

  • Knowledge of drafting standards, including Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).

  • Experience with hands-on troubleshooting of mechanical systems (pneumatics, flow control, etc.).

  • Experience with manufacturing equipment repair and maintenance.
Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) in Mechanical Engineering or a similar degree.

  • 5+ years of relevant experience.
