GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Under the guidance of the Deputy Chief – Facilities, the Engineering Technician shall assist in support functions for the design of MWCD projects and operations. Updates and maintains engineering drawings using Computer Aided Design (CAD). Duties include reading and interpreting source documents, such as civil engineering plans, surveys and legal descriptions of property holdings. Uses CAD to update and maintain utility infrastructure as-built plans.

JOB DESCRIPTION AND WORKER CHARACTERISTICS:
JOB DUTIES in order of importance
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION:
50% (1)
Provide routine to complex assistance on engineering projects received relative to developments, capital improvement projects, utilities, and other engineering projects on MWCD property; may assist MWCD staff with retrieval of project drawings and specifications needed.
45% (2)
Performs field data collection, CAD base map development, design drafting, preparation of engineering specifications and drawings; performs and/or checks calculations, specifications development, field inspection, engineering design, and research technical applications; performs the reproduction of plans and the preparation, filing and retrieval of engineering maps, documents and records.
Maintains required licensures and certification, if any.
Meets all job safety requirements and all applicable safety standards that pertain to essential functions.
Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance.

MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE CHARACTERISTICS: (*indicates developed after employment)

Ability to: Communicate effectively; interpret construction plans and related engineering documents.

QualificationsQUALIFICATIONS:
Possession of a Bachelor’s Degree in related field; one (1) or more years of related experience; or any equivalent combination of education, experience, and/or training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of this position.
