The Materials Engineer is primarily responsible for providing material analysis, product failure analysis, reverse engineering analysis and related activities. This responsibility includes utilizing analytical techniques available within Chicago Technical Center as well as within the global Littelfuse laboratories, documenting results through technical reports and communicating results with internal and external customers. The individual reports to the Laboratory Manager and the position is in Mount Prospect, Illinois.
About the job:Supports Quality, Engineering, Operations, Sales and Marketing through product failure analysis, material analysis, reverse engineering and related activities utilizing analytical techniques available within Chicago Technical Center, within the global Littelfuse laboratories and/or 3rd party analytical service providers
Documents all data and results of analysis through world-class technical reports
Communicates test results to internal and external customers
Collaborates with Quality, Engineering, Operations and Materials Engineering practitioners within the global Littelfuse locations in formulating the most probable root cause of a particular failure
Identifies and recommends new lab equipment, new tools, and procedure improvements to the Laboratory Manager
Other duties as assigned.
About you:
MS or BS degree in Materials Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Physics or equivalent
At least 2 years of experience in Materials Engineering in electronics and/or semiconductor industry.Experienced in analysis of a wide variety of devices such as fuses, PTC, electromechanical devices, semiconductors and others.
Solid understanding of material science, metallurgy, basic electrical test such as various multimeters and curve tracer, sample preparation techniques such as manual and/or automated cross-sectioning, analytical techniques such as optical microscopy, 2D and 3D X-ray analysis, SEM/EDS and root cause analysis.
Ideally with experience in setting up new analytical equipment in the laboratory and coordinating maintenance and service schedules with original equipment manufacturers and other service providers.
Basic knowledge of discrete components and component manufacturing processes.
Good oral and written communication skills.
Ability to operate well independently or as a team member in a fast-paced environment.
Able to handle complex problems efficiently by utilizing available or new tools.

Salary Range:
$64,200 - $95,460The salary offered will vary depending on your location, job-related skills, knowledge, and experience.
