Why Redlen Technologies?

Redlen Technologies is a pioneering company that has revolutionized the semiconductor crystal growth and fabrication process.

At Redlen Technologies, innovation is at the heart of everything we do. Our founder's visionary work with the Canadian Space Agency laid the foundation for our groundbreaking Cadmium Zinc Telluride (CZT) sensors, revolutionizing medical imaging, security imaging, and non-destructive testing. We are driving a quantum leap forward in medical CT scanners, elevating diagnostic accuracy while reducing radiation dose– a technological feat that has earned us global recognition. With a commitment to excellence, we have earned the trust of Fortune 500 industry customers, leading to our acquisition by Canon Inc. for $430M – a testament to our industry leadership.

With over 200 dedicated professionals, we take pride in fostering a work environment where Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) professionals thrive. As an equal opportunity employer we demonstrate that diversity drives innovation, and we are passionate about building a future where every employee contributes to our mission-driven success. Redlen's teams, mirroring the multifaceted diversity of Canadian society, exemplify our commitment to leveraging a wide range of ideas and backgrounds as a driving force for innovation, business excellence, and pioneering advancements in STEM.

Redlen’s Module Engineering department develops detector module products across mechanical, electrical, and firmware domains, with a focus on performance, cost, reliability, and manufacturability. The mechanical engineering team delivers the mechanical implementation for PCCT modules, creating detailed drawings, negotiating tolerances with suppliers, supporting component sourcing, and enabling scalable assembly processes. The team also collaborates with customers to define requirements and ensure our designs meet those specifications throughout development.

This Mechanical Engineering role is highly crossfunctional, with an emphasis on physicsdriven reasoning and electrical/system-level requirements. The work centers on drawings, redlines, root cause analyses, vendor and customer collaboration, and practical engineering rather than conceptual design. The engineer will help refine specifications and will work closely with electrical design, physics, and electronics assembly teams to ensure hardware details are correct, manufacturable, and testable.

Key Responsibilities

Mechanical Design Execution

  • Produce and maintain accurate 3D CAD, mechanical drawings, GD&T, and documentation.
  • Generate redlines, implement design updates, and manage Engineering Change activities.
  • Prepare mechanical analyses (tolerance stack-ups, thermal calculations) using practical intuition and experience (you know when to stop).Design, prototype and refine precise mechanical components and assemblies.

CrossFunctional Collaboration

  • Work closely with electrical, physics, and assembly teams on electromechanical interfaces and constraints.
  • Translate crossdisciplinary feedback into practical mechanical updates. Communicate proactively to ensure alignment and closure on technical details, adjusting level of detail/jargon to fit the audience.
  • Support quality assurance, quality control, procurement, and configuration management functions as needed.

Practical Engineering & Problem Solving

  • Support benchlevel activities including test setups, fit checks, and prototype iterations.
  • Participate in rootcause investigations using firstprinciples reasoning.
  • Support fabrication decisions, component selection, and vendor interactions.

Process and Professionalism

  • Operate effectively in environments with evolving or partially defined processes.
  • Demonstrate ownership, followthrough, and high standards of engineering accuracy.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement in performance, cost, assembly methods, yield, and reliability.
  • Promote a culture of curiosity, humility, and professional collaboration.
  • Lead or assist with project management across mechanical and crossfunctional teams.

Other

  • Other duties as relevant to the role as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Relevant degree or certificate.
  • Proficiency in mechanical and electromechanical product design, especially for optical or medical electronic assemblies.
  • Experience with 3D CAD such as SolidWorks, CATIA, or Inventor.
  • Thermal management design experience/exposure.

MustHave Experience and Skills

  • 5–10 years of handson mechanical engineering experience.
  • Strong capability with mechanical drawings, GD&T, redlining, and design updates
  • Proven experience collaborating with vendors to achieve high-quality components with tight, intentional tolerances
  • Experience working with electrical design teams.
  • Experience supporting prototype builds and validationfocused bench work.
  • Ability to identify and resolve mechanical–electrical interface issues.
  • Strong communication skills in English.
  • Professionalism, accountability, and reliable execution in crossfunctional environments.
  • Curiosity and willingness to understand the underlying physics of the system.

Preferred but Not Required

  • Experience with PCB or flexPCB mechanical interfaces.
  • Experience in mechanical design for medium/high voltage (500V-1500V) hardware.
  • Experience with systems involving electrical signal/power distribution.
  • Experience working with physics teams.
  • Exposure to electronics assembly, substrates, interconnect, or packaging.
  • Familiarity with coatings, adhesives, potting, or thinfilm processes
  • Experience in manufacturing, quality engineering, vendor collaboration, or supply chain.
  • Comfort with fast iteration and evolving processes.
  • Experience with PLM systems or productengineering workflows.

Nice to Have

  • Experience designing or refining engineering processes.
  • Familiarity with Japanese or Mandarin in a vendor or manufacturing context.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree or technologist diploma/ certificate in mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, or equivalent.
