Job Summary:

Primary focus on sustaining site manufacturing processes and leading shift maintenance team members in execution of equipment return to standard and preventive maintenance activities. Is the escalation path for maintenance individuals within the working shift. Conducts smaller scale process improvement projects supporting various site initiatives.

This position is eligible for 15% shift differential.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Continuous Improvement Initiatives / Activities
  • Understands site Key Business Metrics to drive focused improvements. Applies statistical problem-solving tools to implement robust solutions that are verified and/or validated.
  • Define, Plan, & Execute improvement initiatives within the site and within SOP guidelines. Adherence to verification/validation (IQ, OQ, PQ) protocols is required.
  • Design & dimension component details in support of automated equipment improvements.
  • Works frequently with external vendors, site Engineers & other CooperVision sites to improve site manufacturing processes.
  • Effectively able to understand, and describe, automated process flows to facilitates improvements to automated logic control systems.

2. Troubleshoot, Repair, and Maintenance for all production equipment.

  • Diagnose and resolve complex Electrical, Mechanical, & Controls issues on various automated manufacturing cells.
  • Significant knowledge of various Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), with ability to interpret logic in resolving complex equipment and process issues.
  • Interpret and apply written specifications, schematic drawings, parts lists, prints and sketches, to installation, maintenance, and repair of equipment.
  • Effectively communicates, both verbal and written, with shift team, management and other support groups.
  • Minimize lost time incidents through escalation to various support groups, both internal & external.

3. Provides on-shift leadership support to manufacturing maintenance personnel to include, but not limited to, training, employee relations, performance reviews, and discipline. Will provide feedback to Senior Engineering Manager in relation to hiring and termination decisions.

4. Direct focus coaching and developing maintenance team members in return to standard and preventive maintenance of automated equipment/processes. Secondary focus on coaching manufacturing technicians in the flow of various automated processes.

5. Ensures shift team members effectively complete preventative maintenance events prior to due dates, supporting all site manufacturing equipment. All related documentation is completed accurately and legibly in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).

6. Provides documentation updates for electrical and mechanical drawings as needed to sustain accurate prints, in support of various manufacturing cells, including electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and mechanical details.

7. Completes periodic review and/or approval of equipment maintenance SOP procedures, and work instruction. Coaches shift maintenance team individuals in the update and development of SOP procedure.

8. Able to provide leadership support, as needed, for facility related issues, during normal working hours, to sustain, or return flow to key manufacturing processes. (ex. Power Outage, Water leaks, Weather, other)

9. As business need dictates, ability to work extended hours, in resolving complex issues and/or implementation of initiatives facilitating site goals.

10. Perform other duties as directed by department manager or shift supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Notable PLC controls experience required, skilled in accessing PLC content to efficiently resolve process/equipment issues. (Allen Bradley preferred)
  • Demonstrated electrical problem-solving abilities. (control up to 480 VAC)
  • MS Office Experience required.
  • Industrial Robots, Vision &/or Laser marking experience preferred.
  • Experience adhering to Standard Operating Procedures and Regulatory requirements in the manufacturing of medical devices is preferred.
  • Machining & Fabrication experience desired.
  • Previous leadership responsibilities desired.
  • Exhibits excellent communication skills verbal, written, and comprehension of the English language.

Work Environment:

  • Primary environments include clean manufacturing area supporting medical device manufacturing, with secondary office type environment.
  • Exposure to various chemicals or solvents commonly used in sustaining automated equipment.
  • Physical Requirements:
  • Standing, Walking - 50-75%
  • Sitting, Climbing, Bending, Stooping, Kneeling, Crouching, Twisting, Reading overhead
  • Finger/wrist dexterity, Hand/eye coordination, Grasping/pinching
  • Lifting up to 50 lbs.

Experience:

  • 7 - 10 years of experience in resolving and maintain automated equipment processes, including PLC (controls), electrical, mechanical &/or related competencies.

Education:

  • Associate degree or equivalent technical certification (completion of an apprenticeship program, military program or trade school) with 7 years of experience is preferred.

For U.S. locations that require disclosure of compensation, the starting base pay for this role is between $33.25 and $40.44 per hour, includes a 10% shift differential, and may include cost of living adjustments. The actual base pay includes many factors and is subject to change and modification in the future. This position may also be eligible for other types of compensation and benefits.
