Salary: $100,000 - $110,000 annual salary plus a competitive benefits package including paid family health coverage.

Job Summary:

Core Technology Services (CTS) provides secure information management and technology services to North Dakota University System students, faculty, staff, and state residents. CTS links academic and business services with the NDUS community, connecting users to the information and educational resources they need to accomplish their goals.

This Security Engineering Manager role provides administrative and technical assistance in the management of information security. This position reports to the Director of Information Security for the North Dakota University System (NDUS) and serves the Core Technology Services (CTS) group and the NDUS member institutions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Manage the CTS Security Engineering Team

Develop, implement, and maintain security technologies and systems

Prepare and execute security assessments, analysis and remediation

Participate in risk analyses for central and distributed systems and networks

Conduct education and awareness programs related to IT security

Maintain proficiency in current trends and issues in IT security

Develop and maintain IT security policies, standards, procedures, and guidelines

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's degree in Information Security, Computer Science, Engineering, Management Information Systems (MIS), or a closely related field; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Minimum 8 years of progressively responsible experience in information security, security engineering, or a closely related technical security role.

Demonstrated experience implementing and maintaining security or enterprise technologies.

Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to explain technical security concepts to non-technical audiences.

Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment when handling sensitive information.

Ability to work a flexible schedule that may include evening and weekend assignments

Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and collaborate in a team environment with technical staff and cross functional teams.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND FORMAL EDUCATION/TRAINING:

Master's degree in Information Security, Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Engineering, or MIS.

Professional security certifications such as CISSP, CISM, GIAC (GSEC, GCIH), CEH, or equivalent.

Prior supervisory or people-management experience, including hiring, coaching, and performance management of technical staff.

Previous experience in higher education.

Working knowledge of security frameworks, standards, and regulatory requirements applicable to higher education or public sector environments (e.g., FERPA, HIPAA, PCI, NIST, GLBA, CIS).

Experience conducting or leading security assessments, vulnerability scanning, and remediation activities for systems and networks.

Experience with identity and access management, including MFA and privileged access management (PAM).

Experience with deployment and management of centralized logging systems.

Experience with information protection, data loss prevention, and encryption systems.

Experience developing or contributing to security policies, standards, and awareness programs.

Experience using common scripting languages.
