Position Summary:

The Product Engineer - ASME Pressure Vessels TFR (Taco Fall River) performs the design, layout, testing, and evaluation of American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) pressure vessels and associated components. They perform product development and customer design activities including analysis of ASME code requirements, interpretation and implementation of customer specifications and documentation requirements. They perform research and development tasks as required for product line expansions and new product development. The Product Engineer - ASME Pressure Vessels provides existing product line support through design review and modification activities and development of production improvement related design changes. They communicate with other engineering functions including design, process, production, and quality to ensure time and cost goals are reached. They may assign daily work to technical design staff.

Measures of success:

Timely response to internal and external customers

Create new ASME-compliant designs with little to no technical guidance

Achieves high level of design accuracy (ASME calculations, drawings, submittals, etc.)

Responsibilities: (identify functions or the role and expected outcomes)

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Designs ASME Section VIII Div. 1 pressure vessels using specialized software (Design Calc, Compress, etc.) and knowledge of the ASME code.

Performs mechanical functionality analysis and design of one or more of the following: shell and tube, plate and frame heat exchangers, and storage tanks.

Performs both life cycle engineering work on existing product lines as well as designing custom pressure vessels per customer requirements.

Works with Product Managers, Sales and Marketing to develop new products and product line extensions.

Develops complete design packets that include calculations, drawings, and bills of material (BOM).

Processes Engineering Changes (ECs) for customer specific, non-standard product designs.

Prepares Canadian Registration Number (CRN) design packets for products shipped into Canada.

Marks-up, reviews, and approves customer specific submittal drawings.

Processes non-conformance reports (NCRs), technical change notices (TCNs), and other quality documents.

Interacts with customers when supporting technical services team.

Uses Taco's custom software as well as industry software for heat transfer analysis.

Mentors and coaches less experienced engineers and design staff.

Qualifications

Required:

Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology or Physics

3+ years of experience in mechanical engineering design, preferably in ASME Section VIII, Div I pressure vessels and/or HVAC components

Proficiency in Computer Aided Design, SolidWorks and AutoCAD

Knowledge of Finite Element Analysis (FEA) software

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Teams, PowerPoint)

Basic working knowledge of the following codes: ASME Section VIII Division 1, National Board Inspection Code (NBIC), American National Standards Institute (ANSI) standards, Canadian Standards Association (CSA) B51, Tubular Exchangers Manufacturers Association (TEMA), International Building Code (IBC) and American Society of Civil Engineers/Structural Engineering Institute (ASCE/SEI)

Basic knowledge of materials and how to select for specific applications

Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)

Self-driven with the ability to set and meet both short- and long-term objectives

Pro-active and collaborative project team member/leader that works well in a group setting

Ability to present projects/ideas in a thoughtful manner in order to help the department and company meet critical objectives

Travel less than 10% of time to Cranston headquarters, off-site conferences, vendor or customer/rep sites, training, etc.

Preferred:

Professional Engineer (PE) certification

5+ years of experience in mechanical engineering design, preferably in ASME Section VIII, Div I pressure vessels and/or HVAC components

Working knowledge of CEI's DesignCalc for Pressure Vessels

Knowledge of HVAC components and systems

Understanding of or experience with CRN submissions

Work Environment

This position works primarily in an office environment using computers and technology. Verbal and auditory capability are required. Occasional exposure in production plant where large equipment and noise are prevalent. Safety gear is required in these areas.

This position reports into the site every day. Ability to work from home will be granted on an ad hoc basis if performance is in good standing.

This position has no direct reports.

Full compensation packages are based on candidate experience and certifications.

Salary range

$75,292 - $105,409 USD
