We are seeking a highly qualified Electrical Engineer (R D) with deep expertise in analog, digital, and radio frequency (RF) circuit design, along with substantial hands-on experience in embedded hardware and firmware development. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong combination of technical excellence, innovation, and collaborative effectiveness, and will play a key role in the development, optimization, and support of electronic subsystems for both next generation and existing products in mass spectrometry instrumentation. This role is primarily onsite in Ithaca, with hybrid arrangements considered based on project requirements and team collaboration needs. Key Responsibilities 1. Electronic Hardware Design & Development (Mass Spectrometry Systems) Design, develop, optimize, and maintain analog, digital, and mixed-signal electronic systems and critical modules for mass spectrometry products * Lead the design and implementation of complex circuit solutions, including: o RF/DC drivers o High-voltage power supplies o Low-noise signal acquisition circuits o Detector analog front-end (AFE) systems Own PCB schematic capture and oversee layout and routing, ensuring: o EMC/EMI compliance o Signal integrity and noise suppression o High-voltage safety and system reliability Evaluate and refine designs to meet performance, cost, and manufacturability goals 2. Cross-Functional Product Development & System Integration Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams (mechanical, electrical, software, and test engineering) to: o Evaluate product concepts o Develop and iterate prototypes o Support system integration, testing, and validation Participate in prototype bring-up, debugging, and performance verification Diagnose and resolve hardware-, firmware-, and system-level issues Contribute to architecture and technical decision-making throughout the product lifecycle to ensure scalable, robust solutions 3. Technical Resource Coordination & Advanced Problem Solving Establish and maintain relationships with external technical consultants and qualified suppliers Leverage external expertise to resolve complex technical challenges and accelerate development timelines Support troubleshooting of manufacturing and quality issues in low-volume production environments Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance product robustness, reliability, and manufacturability 4. Documentation, Tools & Production Support Prepare and maintain comprehensive R D documentation, including: o Design specifications o Test protocols o Validation and verification reports Track tasks, issues, and defects using Jira Maintain technical knowledge and documentation in Confluence Support New Product Introduction (NPI), pilot builds, and production activities Collaborate cross-functionally to resolve technical issues and implement continuous improvement processes Qualifications Education & Professional Experience Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Physics, or a related discipline e Minimum: o 5+ years of relevant experience (Bachelor's degree), or o 3+ years of relevant experience (Master's degree) Technical Competencies + Demonstrated experience with FPGA and microcontroller (MCU) development and programming Strong background in embedded hardware and firmware co-development, integration, and debugging Familiarity with common interfaces and peripherals, including: o A/D converters o SPI, 12C o Flash and DRAM Strong system-level troubleshooting and diagnostic skills Proficiency in, or ability to quickly learn: o KiCad, Altium o GitLab o Jira, Confluence o LabVIEW Proven ability to capture, document, and reuse technical knowledge effectively Communication & Collaboration Strong interpersonal and cross-functional collaboration skills Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary engineering teams Capable of driving technical problem-solving and project execution Ability to read English technical documentation proficiently and communicate in spoken English at a working level with internal teams, suppliers, and external partners Preferred Qualifications Experience in RF-related design, including: o RF drivers o Impedance matching o EMI/EMC mitigation o Signal integrity optimization Prior experience in mass spectrometry or related instrumentation fields Familiarity with full-system integration and debugging of mass spectrometry subsystems, such as: o Quadrupole drivers o High-voltage power supplies o RF/DC drivers o Ion source control systems o Low-noise detection and signal acquisition electronics
