Primary Position Purpose:
Manage, coach, and support an IT team while maintaining a hands-on approach. Partner to create a technical strategy for proposed product improvements and new products.
Position Functions:
Communicate goals with team, Product, and leadership.
Design solutions with a focus on scalability, performance, and transparency.
Work closely with Product Team to deliver the right solution while understanding prioritization.
Stay up to date with relevant technologies and their potential application at U.S. Xpress
Demonstrate holistic thinking, strategic agility, and leadership with all levels of the organization.
Hire, lead, and train direct reports
Work to clear roadblocks for team.
Build positive relationships across Product and Engineering.
Collaborate in-person with all levels of the organization to harness collective intelligence of the workforce.
Attend all in-person meetings and trainings on recent developments, goals, and objectives. Participate in such discussions by offering input and advice.
Regularly engage remotely and in-person with customers and potential customers to establish rapport, open communication, and expectations.
Build credibility and trust among managed employees by providing prompt and constructive feedback in office when observing such need.
Lead and facilitate regularly scheduled meetings and in-person trainings that harmonize collaboration internal to the department and external to other SBUs.
Determine best practices and reinforce constructive and positive feedback through face-to-face interactions with employees on the floor in real time.
What Were Looking For:
Education
Bachelor's degree in related field required
Experience
- 5+ years of experience as a member of a software engineering team
Transportation, Logistics, and/or Tech industry experience a plus
Skills & Abilities
Competency in one major enterprise software area: RPGLE, EDI, Robotic Process Automation, .NET, Java, or External Integrations
Superior verbal, written, presentation, and interpersonal communications skills
Ability to effectively exercise tact, discretion, judgment, and diplomacy when interacting and/or negotiating with internal and external customers and senior management and ability to communicate with others in antagonistic situations using appropriate interpersonal styles and methods to reduce tension or conflict and maintain professionalism in accordance with corporate standards
Strong technical knowledge
Ability to present and explain technical information in a way that establishes rapport, persuades others, and gains understanding
Initiative and eagerness to work in a dynamic environment
Able to work cross functionally and discuss technical concepts with both technical and non-technical audiences of varying seniority
Ability and willingness to accept responsibility
Willingness to challenge established practices and draw relevant conclusions, including the persistence and willingness to take calculated risk
Ability to stimulate, market, and sell new ideas within the organization
Excellent human resource management skills to effectively lead and direct a diverse work group to achieve results through team efforts, and the desire and ability to motivate, persuade and direct the activities of others
Ability to act as a managerial advisor on professional and technical issues with a view towards reaching strategic decisions
Ability to manage conflicting demands for resources through negotiation
Ability to perform in a high-pressure environment and/or crisis and render good decisions to resolve the problems, maintain safety, and ensure adherence to Corporate Code of Conduct
