Chemours is seeking an early-career Automation and Process Control Engineer to join the Belle Manufacturing Technology team. This position will be available at our Belle, WV location.
This on-site role provides hands-on support for automation, process control, and instrumentation systems used in continuous manufacturing operations. The successful candidate will work closely with operations, maintenance, and engineering teams to support safe, reliable plant performance while learning and applying process control best practices. This role offers strong development opportunities in Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS), and process data systems within a high-hazard chemical manufacturing environment.
The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:
Support day-to-day operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of site automation and process control systems, including DCS, PLC, SIS, and related networks
Configure, test, and maintain control logic, graphics, and control schemes under guidance from experienced engineers
Assist with commissioning and startup of new instrumentation and control system modifications
Develop and maintain DCS graphics that support safe and efficient operator response
Support site Management of Change (MOC) processes for automation and control system changes
Participate in troubleshooting of process upsets and control system issues, including off-hours support as part of a team rotation
Assist with control system documentation, backups, patching, antivirus updates, and inventory management to meet cybersecurity and disaster recovery requirements
Support alarm management, control performance monitoring, and basic data analysis using process historians
Participate in investigations related to control system or SIS events and support implementation of corrective actions
Collaborate with project teams by providing control system support for small capital or expense projects
Learn and apply process safety concepts including PSM, PHA, and safety system fundamentals
The following is required for this role:
Bachelors degree in Engineering (Chemical, Electrical, Controls, Automation, or related discipline) from an ABET-accredited program or equivalent experience
05 years of experience in manufacturing, industrial automation, process control, or related engineering roles (internship or co-op experience counts)
Fundamental understanding of process control concepts, instrumentation, and industrial automation systems
Ability to troubleshoot technical issues and work effectively in a team-based plant environment
Strong analytical, communication, and organizational skills
Willingness to work on-site and participate in an on-call support rotation
The following is preferred for this role:
Experience (academic or professional) with DCS, PLC, or SIS platforms
Exposure to chemical, industrial, or continuous process manufacturing environments
Familiarity with Honeywell Experion or similar DCS platforms
Familiarity with Allen-Bradley ControlLogix or Modicon PLCs
Experience using process historians (e.g., Aspen InfoPlus.21, SEEQ, or similar)
Coursework or experience related to process safety, alarm management, or control system lifecycle management
