The Senior Controls Engineer position is responsible for the design, prototyping, and project management of product development. The position will use their advanced knowledge and experience in controls and their mechanical aptitude to develop new products in response to market demand. This position is responsible for new equipment upgrades and installation to support the demands of operations. This position will provide guidance and training to other electrical disciplined coworkers throughout the organization. This position supervises, supports, trains and develops other engineers or technically disciplined coworkers.

Essential Job Functions

  • Responsible for coaching, teaching, and supervision of assigned personnel.
  • Responsible for effective employee relations. Initiates and is proactive with employee coaching and development. Resolves employee issues through identifying problems and resolutions.
  • Provide on-site leadership for project team by building and motivating team members to meet project goals while adhering to their responsibilities.
  • Responsible for the performance management (hiring, development, discipline, termination) of direct reports while collaborating with Human Resources.
  • Responsible for building and maintaining business relationships, which includes working with all levels of the organization.
  • Work cross-functionally with others and lead meetings to determine needs, evaluate project progress, troubleshoot challenges, and execute according to the assigned to project.
  • Oversee transition and assignment of new projects to direct reports.
  • Perform programming activities through Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), Programmable Automation Controllers (PAC) and/or Operator Interface Terminal (OIT).
  • Configure and program instrumentation as required to complete projects.
  • Collaborate with customers as required to promote successful project execution, including but not limited to discussion with customer engineers and Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) Protocol execution.
  • Support business unit in all aspects of sales, engineering, operations, and service.
  • Resource on projects requiring advanced knowledge of a particular field of specialization.
  • Provide support while achieving optimum use of workers, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Support service team including some periodic travel to troubleshoot and repair units on site.
  • Collaborate with all coworkers of the business unit to provide necessary support to meet the required objectives.
  • Support the business unit in providing information as part of the Open Book Management style of business for forecasting purposes when applicable.
  • Responsible for managing time, schedule, scope, and delivery projects and communicating as needed.
  • Outline and present proposed training needs for new employees in engineering, service, and production as it applies to this field of discipline. Assists with training when required.
  • Support and maintain a troubleshooting guide for all business unit product offerings.
  • Support business unit website objectives for the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) section and troubleshooting guides.
  • Leverage knowledge of Lead Engineer in regards to design and structural methodology, skills, and tools.
  • Collaborate with other professional disciplines throughout the business on technical inquires and needs.
  • Drive and execute continuous improvement ideas and projects to improve efficiencies, improve manufacturability and reduce rework.
  • Ensure lessons learned applied to future efforts.
  • Perform other related duties as required and assigned.
  • Travel including international, could be up to 15% as required by the project or other needs.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Regular, in-person attendance due to necessary teamwork and personal interactive nature of this position.
  • The ability to work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities (Competencies)

  • Leadership skills to lead, develop, and coach others in a proactive manner.
  • Knowledge of principles and procedures for employee selection, development, and training.
  • Advanced knowledge and experience in 3 phase power development and use.
  • Advanced knowledge and experience in the development and implementation of automated control systems.
  • Advanced knowledge and experience in solid state electronic component application.
  • Advanced knowledge and experience in using P&IDs to design and program process control systems.
  • Advanced knowledge and experience with integration of wide range of process analytical equipment.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Advanced knowledge and experience with Computer Aided Design and/or AutoCAD required.
  • Knowledge and experience in a service orientated environment with troubleshooting capabilities.
  • Excellent communication skills both orally and written.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and manage time effectively, in a constantly changing environment.
  • Ability to take initiative to develop new strategies and outside-the-box ideas.
  • Ability to work independently or in a team.
  • Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with individuals at all levels.
  • Self-starter and goal oriented who will aggressively pursue order management issues for successful resolution in a timely manner.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a mechanical aptitude that allows for effective communication of the product to our customers.
  • Manage and prioritize multiple tasks and projects in parallel in a time sensitive environment.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical, Electronic Engineering Degree or similar degree program is required.
  • Minimum of seven (7) or more years of experience in electrical engineering is required.
  • National Electric Code (NEC) Certification or Rockwell Automation Certification required.
  • Professional Engineering License is preferred.

Base Compensation Range: $102,568 - $166,507 annually

Variable Compensation Range: Incentive bonus eligibility up to 12% of gross annual salary base on company performance.

Professional office environment with some time spent in a manufacturing shop. Use of standard office equipment (computers, phones, copiers, and filing cabinets, etc.). Frequent presence on the manufacturing floor as well as field operations. Exposure to conditions, such as: dust, fumes, noise and high-degree varying seasonal temperatures.
