Amphenol High Speed Products Group is the market leader for high speed, highbandwidth electrical connectors for the Telecom/Datacom market (Mobile Networks,Storage, Servers, Routers, Switches, etc.). Our products help to enable theelectronics revolution and remain a key enabler for all the major Tier 1 OEMsglobally. We have design, sales, and manufacturing locations globally and arecurrently seeking a Product Development Engineer to join our High Speed IOConnector team located in Chicago Area, IL
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Product Development Engineer will be responsible for concept generation,design, verification and qualification of High Speed IO products for 112Gbsignaling and beyond. The Engineer will ensure that the product design ismanufacturable and will meet the defined customer requirements - includingelectrical, mechanical and environmental requirements. The position providesopportunities for close customer interaction and will work as part of a globalcross-functional team. This role will also work closely with internal andexternal suppliers and manufacturing personnel while supporting the developmentand validation of product prototypes through pilot production, as well asinterfacing with beta-site customers.
Conceptualize, design, and develop cable assemblies and/or IO connectorsystems from initial proposal to successful tooling and product qualifications.Perform Design FMEA, Tolerance Analysis, Design for Manufacturability, FEAAnalysis, and Risk Analysis.Work with Marketing and the customer to define customer needs and functionalperformance requirements. Assess technical risk.Work with internal and external (vendor) manufacturing disciplines includingStamping, Plating, Molding, and Assembly to optimize design for productionprocesses.Lead product design reviews.Verify accuracy of product drawings and ensure proper usage of GeometricDimensioning and Tolerancing.Work with Materials Engineering to define metal and polymer material choicesbased on requirements associated with performance, pricing, and global sourcing.Present product concepts to customers early in development cycle, interpretfeedback, and incorporate any revised requirements into the design.Define Product, Application, and Packaging specifications.Define verification and product qualification test plans.Manage the resolution of first article inspections.Work closely with NPI and manufacturing engineering to ensure products aretransitioned to the manufacturing.Interact with global associates as is needed during product development andprovide mentorship as is appropriate.Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 25%.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum of 1-3 years experience. Familiarity with high speed cableassembly and/or connector design preferred.Bachelor's degree in a Mechanical or Electrical discipline, or equivalentengineering course and related work experience.Knowledge and experience with design for signal integrity performance ispreferred.Industry Standards knowledge and experience is a plus.Experience and skilled use of Solid Works, FEA simulation software (ANSYSpreferred), Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing principles, and StatisticalEngineering methods.Ability to work effectively within a project team and to direct the activityof others as is needed.Ability to communicate well with Global Customers and all levels of theorganization including Management, Marketing, Sales, Process Engineering, TestLab personnel, other Engineers (local and global), and Designers (local andglobal).Ability to prioritize work to meet objectives and to manage multipleprojects simultaneously.
