Summary
The Technical Designer II supports the Design Department by assisting project Designers throughout the construction documentation phase of projects. This position is responsible for producing accurate and timely CDs based on the project Designer’s completed Equipment Plan, Schedule, and Specifications. In addition, the Technical Designer II will modify previously completed Equipment Plans and Specifications at the direction of the project Designer. The Technical Designer II ensures all drawings and specifications align with project design requirements and meet company standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Collaborate on multiple foodservice design projects simultaneously.
- Initiate project folder and project drawing file setup.
- Meet with AMs and Designers to determine project requirements.
- Complete submittal-ready CDs from Design Development level documents.
- Identify design issues within equipment layouts and propose effective solutions.
- Accurately translate utility information from equipment spec sheets to drawings.
- Identify specifications conflicts as they relate to the CD documentation.
- Dimension drawings clearly and accurately.
- Assist Designer with equipment specifications research as needed.
- Review other team members’ work for completeness and accuracy.
- Maintain consistency throughout the preparation of construction documents.
- Coordinate construction documents drawing set and prepare for submittal.
- Competently respond to health department plan check comments.
- Manage due dates and complete assignments on time.
- Be productive and eliminate downtime by proactively communicating gaps in work.
- Clearly communicate progress, changes and obstacles to design team.
- Assist in maintaining and improving department standards and processes.
- Grow industry knowledge through Avanti sponsored training.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibility
- This position does not have direct supervisory responsibilities.
Required Qualifications
- Proficient in AutoCAD and Revit.
- Previous foodservice CD production and drafting experience.
- Expert-level knowledge of MEP construction related to Foodservice equipment.
- Thorough knowledge of health codes related to Foodservice design.
- Great attention to detail.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Ability to collaborate with project teams in a professional manner.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced growing department.
Educat ion & Experience
- Four years work experience as Technical Designer required.
- Experience working in hospitality industry required.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in business preferred.
Physical Demands
- Hearing. Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make the discriminations in sound.
- Hand dexterity and eye and hand coordination is critical.
- Lifting. Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
- Use of one or both arms and wrists to lift parts, fixtures, and tools on a frequent basis.
- Sitting. Must be able to sit for long periods of time, but at least 50% of the time.
- Standing. Particularly for sustained periods of time.
- Talking. Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately or quickly.
- Required to have visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned or to make general observations of structures. Must be able to read a computer screen for long periods of time.
- Walking. Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one workstation to another.
