Utility Engineer Technician (Project Coordinating)

Overview

The Engineer Technician provides technical and operational support to engineering teams across a variety of projects. This role is responsible for managing technical data, preparing engineering documentation, supporting testing and analysis, and administering processes related to joint use, permitting, and asset management. The position requires strong analytical skills, independent judgment, and regular interaction with internal teams and external customers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collect, organize, and analyze technical data to support engineering projects
  • Prepare engineering documentation (reports, schematics, drawings, diagrams)
  • Conduct calculations, testing, and analysis to support project objectives
  • Build, modify, or repair prototypes as needed
  • Recommend solutions to technical challenges using sound judgment

Asset & Permitting Management

  • Process ROW permits and customer applications across multiple jurisdictions
  • Manage as-built documentation, asset records, and WAMS asset assignments
  • Administer joint use processes, including fines, transfer notifications, and permits
  • Maintain Master Pole Attachment Agreements and Certificates of Insurance
  • Investigate work orders and transfer statuses (Alden One, WAMS)

Reporting & Operations

  • Generate billing reports and support invoicing processes
  • Create internal/external reports, metrics, and work order closure tracking
  • Monitor and resolve customer issues and backlog items
  • Support mapping and field data collection, including outdoor fieldwork

Collaboration & Leadership

  • Work cross-functionally with engineering, accounting, and operations teams
  • Communicate clearly with internal and external stakeholders
  • Provide guidance, training, and potential leadership to team members

Required Qualifications

  • High School diploma + 4 years relevant experience, or Associate's degree + 2 years
  • Experience supporting engineering projects and technical data management
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and technical documentation
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Experience with permitting, asset tracking, or utility/joint use processes preferred
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities

Work Environment

Hybrid role based in the Seattle area:

  • ~2 days/week in office
  • ~2 days/week in the field (outdoor work in varying weather conditions)
  • ~1 day/week remote

Requires local travel for fieldwork and site visits.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Seattle, WA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $38.00/hr.
