Description
The individual in this role will serve as a subject matter expert in air traffic control (ATC) voice communication technologies. This includes working with voice switching platforms, associated hardware and software, and a range of communication interfaces such as analog, digital, electrical, and VoIP-based systems, along with supporting network infrastructure. The role involves partnering with cross-functional teams to define system requirements, conduct market and industry analysis, support acquisition processes, and contribute to verification, validation, and lifecycle management activities.
This position also includes the preparation and evaluation of technical documentation, such as engineering studies, analytical reports, and system design materials. The candidate may contribute to the development and testing of software solutions aligned with the operational and engineering needs of the National Airspace System (NAS) and its supporting infrastructure.
Key Duties
In this position, you will be responsible for engineering and assessing advanced ATC communication solutions, including air-to-ground radio systems, voice switching and control systems (VCS), recording platforms, and protocol translation technologies. You will contribute significantly to system engineering efforts as well as research and development initiatives, particularly during early design, integration, and acceptance stages.
Additional responsibilities may include designing, developing, and validating software components that meet system-level requirements for NAS-related functions and associated support environments.
The systems you will work with primarily consist of modern digital voice and radio communication platforms deployed within Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) facilities. These solutions leverage IP-based architectures to securely transmit voice and data communications, enabling real-time interaction between pilots and air traffic controllers across the national airspace.
You will play a central role in coordinating and executing technical initiatives, including direct engagement with stakeholders, requirements definition, and participation in technical reviews. The position also requires oversight of system development activities spanning concept design through deployment, including prototyping, testing, installation, system acceptance, and ongoing operations and maintenance support.
